The 300

So any of you looking forward to this 'historical' epic about the 300 Spartans defending their turf from 300,000 invaders?

For me I can't wait.  I can't get to a press screening (Babys!) so Im gonna have to wait, murder I tell ya murder.

The only thing I know about this film is that the Iranians have decided this film is mocking them and their history when it is supposed to be about the ancient Greeks correct?

Aparently alot of people are comparing it to the situation in the middle east. Using alot of political undertones and ****e like that. Being that it's based on frank millers comic/graphic novel that was done a while ago it's pretty much bull**** though.

I watched it the other night and loved it, although I love most films that are in a similar vein. Any film loosely based on some huge battle or along them lines and I'll likely enjoy it.

It's loosely based on the battle of Thermopylae , so in short it's not mocking them at all.

Thanks for the link. I see what the issue is now - the Iranians are upset because their Persian forefathers LOST!

They obviously want it retold in a more fairer way - with the ending depicting the battle going into extra time then being decided on a gripping penalty shoot out which they miraculously won.

Well, the events of the film don't actually cover the entire battle of Plataea(sp?) so they've really got nothing to complain about.

The Iranians would also be pissed off in the depiction of Xerxes. A limp wristed, clean shaven batty with face piercings ruling the Persian Empire? A load of bull****. Also there were 7,000 Greek defenders at Themoplyae not just 300 Spartans.

Well it never claimed to be historically accurate...

But I thought it was pretty awesome, very bloody, lots of action. Didn't take itself to seriously. Really liked the visuals aswell

Anyone who tries to analyze 300 as if it is some kind of Frank Miller masterminded documentary really need to get a grip. Personally, I thought it was absolutely stunning from start to finish and, in a similar vein to Sin City, Miller's other masterpiece, it was exactly how a comic book would be if it was put on film.
