A major hurdle has been successfully cleared in getting the third Mummy film underway, with Brendan Fraser having just signed to reprise his role as Rick O'Connell. Director Rob Cohen though has also suffered a minor setback, with Mrs O'Connell, aka the lovely Rachel Weisz, having passed on the opportunity for a third archaeological outing.
It's a major step forward for the sequel, which already has Jet Li aboard as its major villain. If you hadn't guessed, this time the adventure takes place in China, and involves an ancient Emperor and all of his warriors, who are currently made of terracotta but presumably turn into something a bit tougher when they invariably shall come to life.
Oddly for such a big budget project in such an advanced state of development, Universal haven't technically greenlit the film yet, but no-one seems to perturbed by this fact, pressing on as normal and gearing towards a summer 2008 release date. It's all expected to be signed and sealed after screenwriters Miles Millar and Alfred Gough (of Smallville fame) give the script another rewrite to account for the loss of Weisz's character. Well isn't this technically speaking number 4? I know the Scorpion King wasn't a mummy movie per se but it was still part of it all.
With Jet Li as a bad guyt his could be really cool.
No Rachel Weiss? I suppose she is too big a Hollywood star to appear in such a piffling little horror movie.
But, Jet Li is in so that more than makes up for it. It will be interesting to see if he takes an action role because Fearless was supposed to be his final Martial Arts movie. I guess a little swordplay here won't be seen as reneging on that vow, surely?
Well if he's undead then he can use magical powers. And he can be involved in a fight scene or two as technically speaking it isn't a martial arts movie. It's Action
I must be one of the only people to actually like Brandon Fraser, i think he is quite a good actor, always seems very likeable on screen and in interviews, and can be quite funny in his movies, and of course i love Jet Li though its surprising to hear he will be in this movie after retiring from martial art epics but as Dark M said, its an action movie and it wont do him to harm just for a couple of scenes of fighting. I actually heard something about Jet Li being a main role in the Tekken film but that was a while ago, i dont know if its still being made now though.I liked the original Mummy films anyway so this should be fun.
Sounds like it could be an interesting movie, Scopian King, imo, sucked balls. Bad CGI along with a bad storyline made for a pretty unwatchable movie. Lets hope this is a step up.
