As i mentioned about Bottom in another post,i am thinking of getting more classic british Sitcoms to watch in the future. What are your faverate Sitcoms of all time and which do you dislike? Im a huge fan of Only fools and Bottom,Bottom being perhaps the funniest show iv ever seen,i know its toilet humour, but for me, its really enjoyable,i guess i love the wacky stuff they get up to!
Im also a big fan of more gentle sitcoms like Goodnight Sweetheart (very charming and warm show,im a fan of all things Nicolous Lyndhurst) and Sorry.Only fools is the best in terms of memorable characters and moments though (the batman and robin moment is a tad overrated though i have to admit). What do you guys like and can often watch time after time?
Fawlty Towers is simply the mutts nuts of situation comedy. 12 superbly crafted, well thought out, excellently peformed and timelessly hilarious slices of good old British farce with lashings of irony. Never bettered and never will be.
I've also got to give the nod to Only Fools & Horses, The Young Ones, Hancock's Half Hour, I'm Alan Partridge, The Office and The League Of Gentlemen.
Does anyone else remember another John Sullivan show called Dear John from the mid 80's? That ranks as one of the more underrated sitcoms of our time.
my dad loves Dear john but iv never actually seen it myself,my dad loves all the old sitcoms like Porridge and such.My mom loves Faulty tower to,i have to agree, its very funny,John Cleese is fantastic, but the office...i just cant describe how unfunny i think Ricky Gervais is.Iv watched a a few episodes of the office and Extras, including that dancing episdoe and not once did i laugh,im afraid im not a fan of his! But indeed their are so many fantastic sitcoms, another i liked was are you being served.I cant get into US stuff like Fraiser or Friends because it just seems so dull.
The Office was actually helped by the supporting cast like Gareth, Tim, Dawn, Finchy, Keith, etc. David Brent was a great character and Gervais played him well but it is now apparent that it was basically him playing himself because his character in Extras was almost identical. As was his cameo in The Simpsons. And I assume in Night At The Museum as well.
Me too dear John Fan and Just good friends, Ever Decreasing Cirlces also, classics for me will always be Some Mothers Do Ave em, Allo Allo, Till Detah Do Us part/In Sickness and health, The Brittas Empire, Dads Army and Are you being served.
I love anything from the 70's, the golden age of British comedy. You can't beat watching Some Mothers Do Ave em, Porridge or Rising Damp on a Sunday afternoon with a nice cup of tea.
