35% of Metal songs (Apparently) have Satanic content.

Most heavy metal songs are about murder and suicide, the Serbsky State Research Center for Social and Forensic Psychiatry professor Fyodor Kondratyev opines.
"Having researched 700 most popular heavy metal songs revealed that half of them is about murder, 7 percent is positive about suicide, and 35 percent preaches a variety of Satanist ideologies," Kondratyev said in his interview published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily on Monday. He shared with the journalists that according to the American

National Education Association every year near 6,000 young Americans kill themselves under the influence of music like that. According to the expert, Satanism is popular among the teenagers from problematic families, who aim at "taking vengeance on the society" and "look for the similarly-minded teens - so their stress mollifies and they start thinking they are better that the normal children." The professor said that according to the information he got during a forensic psychiatric examination of a criminal, in Moscow there were five strong Satanist groups with 1,000 members, while in Russia there over 100 groups like that.

The same criminal said that during the previous five years the Satanists had committed over 20 ritual murders, Kondratyev said. However, he added, in todays Russia it is hardly possible to put somebody into jail for on a ritual homicide accusation. "Good defenders and threatening of witnesses may destroy any process. I know it from my years of experience as legal expert," he added.

This little ditty was lifted for Ultimare-Guitar.com

Personally I believe that people are always to quick to judge lyric content and condemn outside influences for people's behaviour when we've all got free will and morals to make us do what we feel we need to.

To be honest it kinda gets my goat a little bit that these so called experts think they need to take the moral high ground when really it tends to tar every fan of the thing they're poo pooing with the same brush.

What are your Views?

Yawn...is it that time of year again? As I've been around a lot longer than you SOD, I've been hearing this kind of crap a lot longer and it never ceases to be anything other than pointless and totally inaccurate, pious and unfounded drivel.

For a start they've listened to 700 songs out of how many hundreds of thousands? And if they focus on certain bands of a particular genre like black metal then of course they will find songs with questionable lyrical content. Russia is a way behind the times as far as entertainment is concerned anyway, and 20 years ago rock'n'roll was practically impossible to buy or listen to over there.

The Americans who spew this crap are just stupid and the reason why 6,000 Americans kill themselves is because they are too stupid to live. They live in a country where guns are legal, drugs are rife and brain cells are limited - you do the maths. Because the USA has such a huge ego it doesn't believe in the concept of accepting responsibility for one's actions and will always seek to lay the blame elsewhere. So when kids kill themselves it's not the system's fault for allowing guns to be easily accessible, nor the parents for not bringing their kids up properly or talking to them, it's the music's fault because they have songs wih outrageous lyrics.

Sure, it would be easier if half of these bands didn't try and court controversy by pretending to be Satanists and go out of their way to make the lyrics as explcit and offensive as possible, but the majority of acts sign ABOUT these things in a neutral light and not promoting them. If someone reads something into it that is their interpretation which of course may not always be correct.

This sort of thing comes around every few years and it will be laughed out of town every time. Just treat it with the contempt it deserves and turn your amp up to 11! wink.gif

Do these research companies actually have nothing better to do than survey songs for Satanic content?
