BLEACH not only airs weeknights on Anime Central at 9.30pm but the 3 Disc DVD set of the first series will be released on November 5th through Manga Entertainment. And it will have subtitles and not "dubtitles" like Naruto.
The biggest anime sensation since Naruto, the thrilling supernatural fantasy series BLEACH comes to DVD in November 2007 already riding a wave of critical acclaim that has seen Empire magazine calling it hip, flashy, [and] funkily fragmented' and Anime News Network hailing it as clearly the next big anime.'
Adapted from the best-selling manga series that has spawned two OVAs, two animated feature films, a rock musical, and numerous video games, the specially priced (£24.99) three-disc DVD release of BLEACH SERIES 1 PART 1 features a standard eight episodes, plus four bonus instalments of the 20-episode first series.
Meet Ichigo Kurosaki, an ordinary 15-year-old high school student who, for as long as he can remember, has been able to see and communicate with the spirits of the recently departed. His day-to-day life has remained largely unaffected by his uncanny ability, but his fate takes an extraordinary turn when he meets Rukia Kuchiki, a female Soul Reaper and emissary of the Soul Society. A race of supernatural beings normally invisible to humans, Soul Reapers have two main tasks: firstly, to lead normal spirits, or Wholes, to the peaceful hereafter of the Soul Society; and secondly, to seek out and exorcise evil spirits known as Hollows, who feed on the souls of both the living and the dead.
When a Hollow attacks Ichigo's two sisters, Rukia is instinctively drawn to Ichigo's high level of spiritual energy and steps in to help. During the clash Rukia is injured by the Hollow and, unable to fight on, attempts to transfer a portion of her Soul Reaper powers to Ichigo so that he can defeat the demon on her behalf. However, having underestimated Ichigo's innate supernatural strength, she accidentally releases all her power and transforms him into a complete Soul Reaper. Now, having finally discovered his true calling, Ichigo teams up with Rukia and pledges to protect the living and the dead from evil no matter what the cost.
With its deft blend of supernatural horror, sword-swinging combat action and frequent moments of appealing teen comedy, BLEACH SERIES 1 PART 1 is destined to find a loyal audience of followers among the fans of similarly impressive anime series such as Tactics, Tokko and Naruto.
The three-disc BLEACH SERIES 1 PART 1 (cert. 15) will be released on DVD (£24.99) by Manga Entertainment on 5th November 2007. Special Features include: textless closing; production art galleries; Manga trailer; English 2.0 and Japanese 2.0 audio options; optional English subtitles.
I love Bleach, bought a copy of the Dvds in Japan and its really good fun,but i love the Manga much more.Iv been to busy to watch or buy much anime over the last few months and being in japan,i couldnt really choose any new stuff because theres just far to much anime and manga there so i made sure to get some Bleach which i love.
The good news is they are repeating Bleach from the beginning again on Anime Central before starting the second series so I am able to catch up on the ones I have missed.
I really enjoy Bleach, its one of my faverate animes at the moment. Iv heard some things about a live action but i dont know how true it is. It would be pretty cool ^^.
As I said in last month's column, there is a full length Bleach Anime movie (which I've yet to see) and a rock musical. I've d/l that too but have yet to watch it.
I think I have now caught up most that I missed from the first series and am looking forward to the second series after the way they ended the first series.
The DVD box set mentioned in the first post in this thread is now on my christmas list.
Great stuff Mib. I want to get this dvd series because i absoloutley love this anime and Manga! Just dead broke right now but will cheekily ask my parents to get me it for christmas ^^.
On the anime channel I thought something was strange and I realised they have missed an episode.
It was the one where Ichigo fought with Renji Abarai. I saw the episode where they met and the battle started and then the one where the battle had ended. I thought it was me at first, that maybe I missed a recording but then the next day it was exactly the same episode after the battle repeated again.
So they showed the same epiosde twice and missed the epiosde where they fight!!!
I don't know what is going on with Anime Central right now, first they skipped an episode of Bleach where Ichigo fought with Renji Abarai. Then last night they jumped back and repeated the episode before that one where Ichigo meets Renji at the end of the episode.
I hope this means it will be the one they skipped before on tonight!
Yay! They did show the episode they skipped before, so I managed to see it and it was worth watching. A very cool episode with a great fight and some interesting info about Ichigo.
Hopefully ill get the box set of this tomorrow so i can begin watching them, iv seen a few episodes already and its great,iv read more of the mangas then the anime so looking foward to going through them from the start...if it does come tomorrow anyway!
finally started to watch this from episode one, very funny, very well animated with all kinds of styles used for the animation and its quite similar to the Manga, Ichigos dad is a right fool though which is often Hilarious and some great comedy from the manga is used well in the show, nice little opening show which was very enjoyable.Looking forward to seeing Chad and the rest in future episodes, have read more mangas then seen the show so will be getting to watch more with time.
I have to say that having seen all the episodes over the past couple of years (well I'm about three behind right now) it was cool to see the beginning again but at the same time it's weird seeing Ichigo right back at his most basic Shinigami stage considering how far he has come in the series.
You guys have so much great stuff to look forward to. BANKAI!!
Sounds great mib, im up to issue 10 on the Bleach Manga series so i have a rough idea what to expect for the next several episodes but i know this anime has well over 100 shows so ill need a lot of time to catch up on them. Good thing is i got this set for just 20 pounds then theres a set for episodes 41-90 for cheaper so i know where ill be going to buy this series from for darn sure ^^.Its really funny but Ichigos dad is a really annoying fool at times.
Watched the second show and really enjoyable, nice to see the story with Ichigo and the Shingami girl (i keep forgetting names!) going along and got to see Orihime finally, who is very cute but the story of her and her brother is quite sad, espicially as he is captured and then turned into onf of those hollow monster things. The translation on my version is quite bad and i havent read the manga for a long time so a little difficult to remember and read whats going on.

The "shinigami girl" is RUKIA and she is one of the central characters so try harder to remember her name!
I'm assuming that the set you've bought is a bootleg set if it has so many episodes and dodgy subtitles. You could have entered the competition on the main CPC Movies site for the UK release!
Rukia thats it..I know who she is MIB as read the mangas enough but its the same with most movies, animes, books ect..i have a terrible memory and cant remember a lot of characters names espicially from asian film and animes! But yes great show, but indeed its probably a bootleg set, thats why it was so cheap, i dont mind but when simple words are completly mispelt or used,it gets annoying but for the price i paid, i dont mind.Very good show from a great manga so far :).
up to number 7 in the series so far, great fun mixed with some quite sentimental moments espicially with Orihimes brother who passed on and you cant help love her innocense and kawaii nature of hers.Iv seen a few episodes previously both on some japanese dvd sets i bought and on the anime channel here but its good to get watching them from the start.
Iv completed the full 40 episode set i have now so im probably going to get the new lot when i can though oddly the second box set on sensasia only has epidoses 41 to 68 so a couple less then the first set..Its a really great anime and manga series :)
Bleach is great fun. Sadly now im dead broke i cant get the next collection of dvds.I really should get the proper english sub versions though because the set i have is some of the worst english subs ever, lots of typos and errors..
My review of Series 1 Part 2 should be up soon. Unlike the first set there are just 2 discs (despite NEO somehow reviewing a 3 disc set) and it is released on Feb 25th.
Series 2 Part 1 is scheduled for release on April 28th (3 discs apparently) and Series 2 Part 2 on November 3rd (2 discs).
And the best thing is they are all priced roughly the same as a single volume disc making them great value for money.
Lucky you, I am still waiting to see the outcome of the Soul Society story, the series 2 part 1 DVD which arrived only goes up to the fight between Renji and Ichigo which I have already seen.
The Soul Society arc ends with episode 63, so that should be roundabout the release of Series 3:2 if they stick to the current release format of 3 discs then 2 discs.
