CHUD has learned from a casting notice that James Wong ("Final Destination" films, The One, "The X-Files") is writing and directing the live action Dragon Ball Z movie for 20th Century Fox. The site has included the casting breakdown, which you can read here.
Dragon Ball Z is adapted from the manga created by Akira Toriyama; the work was also turned into a Japanese anime series that played all over the world. It tells the story of an alien sent to destroy Earth, who has a change of heart and decides to join the humans in their fight against various aliens and bad guys.
The film is expected to start production in Montreal in November.
What do you think of this then? i really dont like the sound of it.A lot of manga/animes turned into films have been great but i jut cant see this one working at all.Im not the biggest DBZ fan but i enjoy it a lot as the anime is really great but i just cant imagine anyone playing the characters. (
Seeing as James Wong is based in Hollywood I think you have your answer as to how this will turn out.
If it was being made in Japan then there is at least a fighting chance it would be semi-watchable and the script would have some understanding of the concept and the story of the original Manga.
Now be fair Dark M, Mortal Kombat was fairly decent, (i thought!).I guess not many people have high hopes for it judging by some of the reactions iv read.
the ultimate Manga - Live action translation fuck up was surely the "Fist Of The North Star" 'Starring' Gary Daniels as Kenshiro. No one could possibly fuck up a franchise as much as they did with that one.
Hopefully they'll do something worthwile with the Dragonball Z franchise.
Well the Japanese released a live action DBZ many years ago, i have seen screen caps of it, looks quite comical. I liked the original MK, Annihilation was crap though. Im a huge DB fan so I hope that this turns out well, should be good to watch (I hope)
Chow Yun-Fat is the latest (and clearly most high profile) actor to join the largely B-list cast of the much-anticipated Dragonball movie, which continues to race towards it's eventual debut in August 2008. Shooting began on December 3rd.
The Hong Kong action star, internationally famous for his performances in popular action films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, will step into the role of Master Roshi, an old martial artist and father figure for main character Goku (who is being played by the little known Justin Chatwin).
I'd upload that on a image host like Imageshack or Imagevenue if I were you DM rather than hotlinking. Would save loading time and less problems as it's 2700 x 2930 pixels and 4.8MB!!
