I think that Depp is one of the most underrated actors out there today. And that says a lot, because he gets a lot of credit and is one of the best paid actors in the biz. But I say that he could go down as an All-time great. One of the main reasons is because he knows how to pick movies. That is a really underrated characteristic in the movie business. If you have a few bombs in a row, it's hard to get back on top. Depp has gotten to the top, and remains on top. This should be good. I'm gonna go see National Treasure 2 the day that it comes out, and who knows, I may have to go see this the following week.

Is that a joke? Whenever they hold polls anf features on "best actors" his name is always near the top. Recently Ch 4 did Top 100 best actors as voted for actors themselves and Depp came in the top 5 behind DeNiro, Pacino and Brando (at No1)!
He probably doesn't get oscar nominations as he usually chooses quirky film roles and not "mainstream" films like the others but despite that he is probably more of a "marquee" name than most Oscar winners and he is always in demand so he probably doesn't care about that anyway.
I admitted that he got a lot of attention as a good actor, but I think he's even better than good. I think he's great. He's one of the best actors of our generation, as I said before. That being said, it would be hard to put him ahead of DeNiro, Pacino, or Brando. I guess that I would just like to see him viewed as closer to those guys and not a distant fourth.
I know that doesn't make any sense, but do you get my drift?

I think so. The fact is his continual choice for challenging and quirky roles will also leave him on the outside of the super heavyweights in the eyes of the mainstream. He's more likely to get a "special achievement" when he's 70 rather than for his work now.
Yeah, but i like that he is quirky. that willy wonka movie would have been sh*t witout him. he was amazing in that film, and that is what made me a fan.
