Just read a few of your reviews Mib and as usual, great stuff and spot on about Earthsea, though i had no idea the great Willem Dafoe voiced the main villain in the us dub of the film..I think its a bit unfair from people to vote it as worst movie and director when its clearly not that bad however what it is, is really quite dull and bland in parts, nothing truly memorable as you said. The animes in your reviews sound quite intresting but man theres so many...
After reading your reviews which are their usual standard or being excellently written I have to say only one of them appeals to me and that is Witchblade of course.
I can understand what you mean in the reviews about die hard fans being upset about the story being changed, but being someone who has a number of the original Witchblade comics and has seen the TV series too, I think it is a good thing.
The original comics are very good and mostly revolve around Sara Pezzini and the Witchblade, but there are version of the comic which show the other women it has been with in the past. So the fact it has moved on to another person isn't really breaking any rules about the witchblade. Also the TV series which did try to continue the Sara Pezzini story was terrible as it wasn't in keeping with the style and spirit of the comic and was a poor attempt at a TV series.
I am very hopeful of this series as a new start after the poor TV series is just what I think it needs, I just hope there are others who agree with my views and it is successful.
The only other one that appeals to me in any way is Moonphase as it does sound like the story has potential to be very interesting, but your comments about the confused animation and low star rating doesn't make me want to rush out and see it.
Actually I would say there are more that interested me in your previous set of reviews which I have only just got around to reading too, sorry.
Trinity Blood, Elemental Gelade and Gun X Sword all sound like series that would really appeal to me so I will be keeping an eye out for the earlier episodes of those ones.
Like I say, I'm just giving an honest and personal opinion. NEO for example gave the first volume of Moonphase 4 stars and although I wouldn't go that far, it was better than vol 4 which was lacking in many ways.
Remember I have to judge each individual disc and not the series as a whole.
This is more a comment on the web page rather than the reviews which are excellently written as usual.
Are the new reviews on the same page as the previous reviews? It just I see the previous ones on there and I found myself reading ones I had read before.
Great reviews as always, but not sure if any appeal to me. That one Hell Girl as I read the review started to appeal then about half way through the review I started to think I may not like it and it may be a bit dark and too sad for me at the moment.
I can see what you mean about Hell Girl as the "victims" are mostly young schoolgirls but the plus side is that the bad guys get their comeupance in the end so it all balances out.
The Japanese are very good at tapping into that vein which bleeds the dark side of humanity to the point where you really hate the perpetrator whilst at the same time asking yourself who could a humn being be so cruel to another. Thuis Anime is another example of that and is worth checking out.
Interesting to see about the Individual Eleven DVD.
I totally agree with what ou have written, it was a complicated story and I needed in the episode chunks to fully take it all in and undersand it. Watching it as one whole would be too much for me I think. Also as you sid any fan (like me) already has GITS 1 & 2 box sets so why would they buy this one too?
Well I think I could have guessed that one would get 5 stars from MiB, he has been looking forward to getting a copy so much he was posting in the chat box about it!
I forgot to mention that the current issue of NEO has a free DVD with the first two episodes of MÄR - in Japanese and subbed no less - as a sample for the three disc set released on Monday!
Nice stuff Mib.Having get into the Hell girl (girl from hell) live action tv show,i want to start watching its anime as well, really cool story.Naturally i know the Death Note Live action and Mushi shi which i have a set of the anime but id like to start on witchblade.
