I forgot to add, in the event of a situation where there is only 1 vote for a guitarist I shall allow people to pick one guitarist from their list to go through to the final vote for sure.
Ok, the next round commences. The Brackets are....

Eric Clapton - Slash Jack White - James Hetfield Dave Mustaine - Jimmy Page Jimi Hendrix - Mark Tremonte Dimebag Darrell - Brian May Dave Gilmore - Dave Murray
SOD - I hope our other choices will appear in the later rounds.
I took the most popular choices and the Starred nominations through and this is going to be the brackets as apposed to the long drawn out shit like the Greatest song (Not that there's anything wrong with that)
In all intents and purposes this is the Quater finals these 12 get wittled down to 6 then 6 to 3 then we have a poll for the number 1 out of those 3.
Eric Clapton - Slash Jack White - James Hetfield Dave Mustaine - Jimmy Page Jimi Hendrix - Mark Tremonte Dimebag Darrell - Brian May Dave Gilmore - Dave Murray
Eric Clapton - Slash Jack White - James Hetfield Dave Mustaine - Jimmy Page Jimi Hendrix - Mark Tremonte Dimebag Darrell - Brian May Dave Gilmore - Dave Murray
Eric Clapton - Slash Jack White - James Hetfield Dave Mustaine - Jimmy Page Jimi Hendrix - Mark Tremonti Dimebag Darrell - Brian May Dave Gilmour - Dave Murray
Comments:
Clapton vs. Slash I love GnR (and Velvet Revolver as well), but if you asked me straight up my answer to this question, then it would easily be Clapton. White vs. Hetfiled Again, I love The White Stripes and I'm amazed at what they can do with just a guitar and drums, but Jack is nowhere near great enough to even compare to Hetfield.
Mustaine vs. Page I love what Mustaine has done in Megadeth, but I've always been drawn to Zeppelin, mainly because of Plant and Page. Hendrix vs. Tremonti Hendrix vs. Alter Bridge? With all due respect, DM, this must be a joke. Dimebag Darrell vs. May I respect everything that Abbott did with Pantera and then Damageplan, but Queen is one of my favorite bands, and May is one of my musical hereos.
Gilmour vs. Murray This was close, but it came down to the fact that I like Maiden more than Floyd.

With respect this not about favourite bands it's about who you rate better as a guitarist. I rank Maiden higher in my all time favoruite band list but Gilmour is a far better guitarist than the Maiden lads as good as they are.
James Hetfield - Brian May - No contest Dave Murray - Jimi Hendrix - No contest Eric Clapton - Jimmy Page - Very tough but Page was a little more inventive while Clapton stagnated early
James Hetfield - Brian May ( no contest) Dave Murray - Jimi Hendrix ( have to go for him as he lead the way) Eric Clapton - Jimmy Page ( again no brainer)
James Hetfield - Brian May Dave Murray - Jimi Hendrix Eric Clapton - Jimmy Page
These were a lot easier than I thought they would be.
Hetfield vs. May Hetfield is a good guitarist, but with all due respect, he is actually the rhythm guitarist for Metallica. I know that he gets the benefit of the doubt because he writes and sings too, but based on guitar playing alone, I don't think there are many guys that could beat May.
Murray vs. Hendrix Again, I'm a huge fan of Maiden and Murray, but Hendrix is just on another level. The things he could do with an axe are unbelievable sometimes.
Clapton vs. Page I don't see how Clapton loses in this competition. He's so versatile that it's not even funny, and he is also a top-notch singer. "Tears in Heaven" is one of the greatest guitar songs of all-time, regardless of genre. Plus, he's always sold records on his name, and he has the biggest name of anybody in this competition (not that it matters much, however).
