This is an American comic book I have really enjoyed reading and although the TV series of it was very dissapointing I am really looking forward to the Anime that MiB has reported on.
One interesting thing MiB said about in his review is about the amount of flesh on the main female character being shown, but as he isn't a fan of the original comic he may not realise that it was also very revealing in those aspects too, so the Anime is not really doing anything shocking from a Witchblade perspective.
Here are some examples of artwork from the original comic from topcow.
Very interesting wallpapers, I guess you are right about getting away with more in the comics than the anime, because looking at those pictures the anime looks like it is covered up more than the comic.
I think for me this is the anime I am looking forward to the most at the moment.
i never read the original comic, but i kinda like the tv series you know...so i have to gather the paper version is that cooler?pretty interesting... the anime version just seems to be my thing,i ll definetly will be checking it if i can get a good chance to.
I almost bough a box set of the first 3 volumes of this series today in HMV, but the box rattled and I got the shop assistant to open the box and one disk was loose and all scratched! and they have no other copied in stock so I didn't buy it. I should have gone along to Zavvi, but it was too hot and I was getting worn out from walking.
Well I have now had the chance to watch the first 4 episodes and I have to say I am very pleased I bought this series.
As I have already said I am a fan of the original Top Cow comic and I know some others who are also fans of the original comics have complained about the anime because it was a whole new character and story intorduced. Some think using a previous Japanese wearer of the witchblade should have been the way to go.
But I disagree, this anime was going into a market where Witchblade would not be well know and many watching it will be for the first time and not know the history of it, so starting a new story where all the characters and plot is new is better than trying to continue something that already existed as this would just spoil it for anyone new as they would not know the background.
Also although the original Top Cow comic revolved around a single wearer for most of it, they have now intorduced a new wearer in the comic and had specials showing previous and future wearers too. So the anime introducing a new wearer is not really breaking the whole Witchblade story at all.
I also watched an extra on the DVD which showed around Top Cow's offices, the one interesting thing I saw was the difference between the TV and DVD versions of the anime that MiB mentioned before. Now that I have watched the first 4 episodes I can see why they chose to cover up more for the TV version.
Finally to finish my post I also noticed there is a film in the making.
The film is one of two being produced and financed back-to-back by Platinum Studios, IDG Films and Relativity Media. The film will be produced by Arclight's Gary Hamilton and Nigel Odell, Platinum Studios' Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, and Steve Squillante of Havenwood Media. Top Cow's Marc Silvestri and Matt Hawkins will be executive producers with Platinum Studios' Rich Marincic and Greenberg Group's Randy Greenberg. Filming is scheduled to begin in September 2008, with China and Australia among the possible locations being considered for filming.[10][11]
The film's website and teaser poster were released in May 2008
