Frank Millers Hotly Anticipated Adaptation Of Classic

Will Eisner Comic Series

THE SPIRIT

in cinemas across the UK on January 2nd, 2009

Starring

Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes

Hot on the heels of a rapturous response at the New York Comic-Con in March,  Lionsgate UK will release THE SPIRIT in cinemas nationwide on January 2nd, 2009.

THE SPIRIT stars Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Sarah Paulson, Stana Katic, Dan Lauria, Jaime King, Paz Vega and Louis Lombardi.  The film is written and directed by Frank Miller, creator of SIN CITY and 300, and based on the classic series by comic legend Will Eisner.

Adapted from Will Eisners legendary comic strip, THE SPIRIT, an action-adventure-romance, is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the SPIRIT (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City.  His arch-enemy, the OCTOPUS (Samuel L. Jackson) has a different mission: hes going to devastate the Spirit's beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality.  The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central Citys rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront ... all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader.

Odd Lot Entertainment and Lionsgate are production partners on THE SPIRIT.  Odd Lots Deborah Del Prete and Gigi Pritzker are producing along with Michael Uslan of Batfilm Productions Inc. Batfilm co-founder Benjamin Melniker and Steven Maier are executive producing, along with Odd Lots Bill Lischak and Lionsgates Michael Burns and Michael Paseornak.  Odd Lots Linda McDonough and Batfilm/Comic Book Movies F.J. DeSanto are co-producing.

With the style being too similar to Sin City, I think people may see it is too much of a clone to appreciate it. Certain gimmicks can't be replicated without some resultant cynicism aimed at them.

But then 300 was much the same as well it that new style of rotoscoping.

My immediate reaction was 'Is this Sin City 2' not being up on all things Frank Miller. Still it will be worth a look Im sure.

I've not seen 300 yet but I don't think it was largely black and white or at least mostly limited lighting and odd flashes of colour like Sin City.

As you're reaction proved, it would be easy to think that this film and Sin City were directly related.
