Portugal are a good side, and if Ronaldo really is the best player in the world, he will deliver a big performance at this tournement. Can see them,France,Itally and Spain in the Semis myself.
I'm saying it'll be a Portugal v France final with Portugal winning it. Not sure if i'd call it a shock exit buti predict Italy wont progress from their group which also included France and Holland.
Sounds like a good tourne so far, espicially sine we are out of it! Im a neutral, cant really support any country but i like the look of Spain and David Villa ^-^.
Portugal looked great against the Checks (lol) last night. Turkey didn't look too bad either. I still think Holland will win. Although with Scolari off to Chelsea after the Tourney will they be looking to give Scolari a good send off?
you can not expect a counrty who make the worlds most agressive chocolate bar to be good at football.
the swiss are out leave them to as Orsen Wellls said in the film " the 3rd man" to their Cockcoo Clocks ( im sure DM will correct me if im wrong on the film )
The swiss never had a chance, decent team with no real quality.Im missing a lot of good games at the moment darn it,but ill be back in the uk sunday so im sure ill see the last of the group games. So far Portugal look very good,Spain have an abundance of Talent,Italy and France Unimpressive...Hopefully if Villa does well,Sir Alex might consider taking a shot with him in the tranfers ;) quality player, and we need a good goalscorer!
Id like to draw your attention to my original post in this thread....
Germany are shocking at the back and Lehmann is looking past it these days. Fortunatly for them they have Austria in the next round, but I don't think the Austrians are going to roll over for Germany...
Well there's a bit of a bruhah about tonights results so heres the latest from UEFA on it...
Italy and France will not face a penalty shoot-out on Tuesday no matter what the results are in of the final games in Group C, Uefa has confirmed.
The European football governing body had suggested a shoot-out could be used to determine which of the two teams finishes bottom of the group.
But a Uefa official attempted to clear up the confusion over the matter.
"There is no way that France and Italy can go to a penalty shoot-out," a spokesman told BBC Sport.
The Netherlands have already secured top spot in the group but the other three teams in the so-called 'Group of Death' are still battling to clinch the other quarter-final berth.
A Romania victory would ensure their passage through to the knockout stages and effectively render the France-Italy game meaningless.
But on Monday it was claimed that should Romania go through and France and Italy draw then their group positions would be determined by a shoot-out.
However, Uefa has clarified that a penalty shoot-out would only be used to determine which team qualifies when two sides finish level on points and cannot be separated by goals scored.
Here is the official Uefa regulation:
"If two teams which have the same number of points, the same number of goals scored and conceded, play their last group match against each other and are still equal at the end of that match, the ranking of the two teams in question will be determined by kicks from the penalty mark, provided no other teams within the group have the same number of points on completion of all group matches."
Here, BBC Sport details what could happen on Tuesday:
GROUP C PERMUTATIONS The Netherlands have won Group C and will play the Group D runners-up in the quarter-finals.
Romania will qualify for the quarter-finals if they beat the Netherlands, eliminating France and Italy.
If Romania fail to beat the Netherlands, the winner of France v Italy will go through.
If France and Italy draw, a point against the Netherlands would be enough to send Romania through. France must win to have any chance of qualifying.
If France and Italy share a score draw (1-1, 2-2, 3-3 etc), Italy will go through if Romania lose (by any score). In this scenario, Italy, Romania and France will be level on two points each but Italy would have scored more goals in games between the 3 teams.
Romania will finish bottom of the group if they lose and France and Italy draw 2-2, 3-3 or 4-4. France will finish bottom if they draw 1-1 unless Romania lose 3-0 or by a four-goal margin.
If France and Italy draw 0-0, Romania can lose by one goal, two goals or by a three-goal margin other than 3-0 but still qualify. In this scenario, Italy and Romania would have identical head-to-head records, but Romania would have better goal difference in ALL group matches or, in the case of the three-goal defeats, goals scored. France would finish bottom, having scored fewer goals head-to-head v Italy and Romania.
If Romania lose 3-0 to the Dutch, Italy would qualify with a 0-0 draw against France because of their superior coefficient points. France would finish bottom as they would have scored fewer goals head-to-head v Italy and Romania.
If Romania lose by four goals or more and the other game ends 0-0, Italy would proceed with a better overall goal difference than Romania. France would finish bottom as they would have scored fewer goals head-to-head v Italy and Romania.
If France and Italy draw AND Romania avoid defeat, then Romania go through.
The French need to dump their horrorscope consulting manager first. I believe that Didier Dechamps is favorite to get the job.
Then they need to shuffle off a few of the older players and bring through the younger talents.
Italy didn't look that great either. Without Cannavaro they are not half the team that won the World Cup. Im expecting Spain to destroy them quite easily unless Buffon has another great game...
Braxious I don't think we would, we would have been in that group with Germany. We may have scraped through the group stage, but then we would get slaughtered by either Portugal or Holland.
The French have some deep problems. The likes of Henry and Makelele are not good enough anymore, while Govou,Abadil and that like are not world class,Riberys injury was a huge blow though and from then on nothing but bad luck hit the french.Italy look pretty bad to,and Luca Toni..couldnt believe how many chances he missed last night but Pirlo is amazing, what a player.Italys best player in my opinion. As for england, i doubt we would have won it,Our national side is god awful.
Makelele and Thuram have both retired from international football after the Euro 2008. Not a surprise really. Makelele wanted to quit after the World Cup but DOmenech wouldn't let him. Thats when Mourinho claimed he was a slave driver.
Theres a few more squads in the world that could dpo with old players going to allow the new talent through.
please let me dream, alas alak we we will never know
DAMMM Mcalren to HADES
As one of today's papers pointed out, the teams that apparently should have bowed to England's supremacy have both made the quaters, so maybe McClaren wasn't as bad as was first thought. They 're just both OK sides, same as England. Croatia could very well go all the way...
Great match but the Germans deserved to win. Ronaldo is leaving united,i would bet on it now,the lad doesnt want to be at United and he hasent had to kind words about Fergie in interviews which is sad since sir Alex has been always good to him.But money talks and i guess spain has much more to offer then gloomy manchester.
If United have any sense they'll take the money and run. 100mil is rediculous and the players that could bring in is infinate. BUT if the money just gets swallowed to go towards the Glazier debts there will be hell to pay from the fans and Fergie. Football is now a business and £100mil is a £87.5mil profit from a single investment 4-5years ago. It makes too much sense to turn down!
Real need their heads examined. They can talk about merchandising all they want but in the grand scheme it wont boost theirs much, neither will it dent Uniteds. Ronaldo doesn't have the same world-wide appeal Becks had in 2003.
This is just Real trying to make a statement about being the most glamourous team in football. If Ronaldo had sense he would see United are having more sucess at the moment and Real haven't got near the Champions League in 5 years. He should be begging to stay a United where he can be a legend. Not go to Madrid where he will just be another passing star (see Beckham, Ronaldo, Seedorf, even Raul, the closest thing to a modern day legend at the Bernabau, is gradually getting pushed out the club he's served all his career). He wont get to score his goals either. He'll be stuck on the wing and told to showboat.
And this post has become a lot longer than was planned!
i have given up on predicting ther footie results ive been wrong almost all the way.
how ever as a normal footie fan i now switch my colours to ....................................................... GERMANY...................................................
Call yourself English? How can youever support the crouts in Footie? We need to be supporting Turkey being as this country would have no shops to goto to get some decent food after kicking out time if it wasn't for them.
Great match spoilt by the techincle problems.Sad for Turkey to go out dispite outplaying the germans but as usual the Germans know how to win when they are playing so poor. I can see Russia defeating spain but not 3-0, itll be tight, Arshavin and Villa will be the key men for me, Torres has been quite disapointing in the tournement.
Yes Germany did not play well and Turkey was unlucky, but Turkey have been very lucky so far winning games and getting past teams when they didn't deserve too, so in my opinion their luck finally ran out and I glad it did because I don't think they deserved to be in the final.
