It seems that Seth MacFarlane is serious about a Family Guy film and in fact he's so serious that he thinks they can do it within the year, despite not having the time to fit it in with the television show.
What is interesting though are his comments about why they would do a film, something I think reflects quite harshly on The Simpsons Movie.
In the interview over at TV Week through the upstanding MoviesOnline he says:
"We want to do it. And it is time. In the past six months we have seriously started talking about it. And my hope is that we will get it going within the next year. Doing the show is a seven-day a week process, so I don't know how we will squeeze in a movie. But we will figure it out. I have an idea about what it will be. It is definitely something you wouldn't be able to do on the show. That's the only reason to do a movie."
The only reason to do a film is to have an idea that won't work on the small screen, now can you really say that about the Simpson's Movie? I don't think you can. It is an elongated episode.
Family Guy certainly has much more scope that Simpson's though, after all that's still a cartoon that carries a wide audience appeal, Family Guy is really for the mature audience. Now I wonder if they will be so concerned with an R rating?
So, do we think they can pull it off like The Simpsons did, or will just be 80 mins of uncut crudity and profanity because they can get away with more on the big screen?
I find Family Guy a mixed bag,can be very funny but some of the stuff is a bit repulsive,a feature lenth might be pretty good, wouldnt be surprised if it gets the go ahead.
I like family guy so I would hope a movie would be very good. I have watched Family Guy - The Blue Harvest which is longer than a usual episode and was very very funny.
Yeah it was pretty funny ^-^.I love Peter,so damn obnoxious and rude but always funny. However the old guy character who seems to like young boys does creep me out.Usually i dont like this more extreme type of humour but its funny ^-^.A feature lenth movie might be the greatest thing ever or could turn out to terrible.
I'm not sure it could cut it as a feature presentation. Don't get me wrong, I love Family Guy. They'd need a lot of fresh material as they seem to be running out of ideas on the small screen as it is.
And another point... Yes it was straight to DVD, but have we forgotten they've already made a Family Guy film; Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story.
Actually, the Stewie Griffin DVD was two regular episodes put together into one extended piece with some extra footage to make it seem like a feature length film.
