Now theres an update from Lindelof, and although its a delay, its still good news. One great thing about his words is that hes not talking about a mini-series, amazingly hes talking about a seven film series along the lines of Lord of the Rings.

Ive read all seven novels, pretty much as they were released, and I was transfixed. The story of the gunslinger travelling through dimensions in order to save worlds is a great one, and surprisingly a very personal one.

Ive never wept when Ive read a book, but come the final pages of the last book I was. I couldnt believe it, but I was profoundly affected by the characters and their journey, and thats not an overstatement.

So for me its great news that Damon Lindelof is talking along the idea of having seven films for the seven books, and while he might compare them to Lord of the Rings, I might think they might be more akin to Harry Potter for adults.

AMC through /Film have the quote from Lindelof that reveals hes far too busy on Lost for now, and that The Dark Tower series will have to wait until thats done.

'The Dark Tower is to me every bit as daunting an adaptation as the Lord of the Rings trilogy must have been for Peter Jackson, except weve got seven books were looking at. And the idea of doing that at the same time Carlton and I are bringing Lost to a close is simply not viable. There are always Dark Tower conversations, but the figuring out of what this will look like as a movie has not begun. If The Dark Tower were in the right hands, I would love to see seven movies executed just right. But you have to get people to see the first one to get them to come and see the second one.'

I do have to come down to reality a little and wonder if there are enough Stephen King fans out there that would support the film and ensure it received the kind of success that would merit a studio running a seven film series, but remember that it wouldnt carry the cost of Lord of the Rings.

Sure there are some big shots with plenty of effects required, but theres nothing on the scale of some of the epic shots of Lord of the Rings. Thats why I would compare it more with Harry Potter for scale.
