THE INCREDIBLE HULK TO SMASH INTO THEATERS JUNE 27, 2008
LEGENDARY MARVEL SUPER HERO TO RETURN TO THE BIG SCREEN IN ALL-NEW, ACTION-PACKED ADAPTATION HITTING SUMMER 2008
HOLLYWOOD, CA, November 6, 2006 – You WILL like him when he's angry! Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures will unleash Marvel's renowned, larger-than-life green Super Hero onto moviegoers everywhere in summer 2008 as they have announced a June 27th release date for the action-packed, new big screen adaptation: The Incredible Hulk. The announcement was made today by Michael Helfant, President and COO, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, President of Production for Marvel Studios.
Directed by top rising star Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2, Unleashed), The Incredible Hulk will return to the roots of the long-running comic series, combining a well-developed storyline with incredible action and fun. Zak Penn, who previously collaborated with Marvel on X2 and this summer's smash hit X-Men: The Last Stand, is writing the script. The project is being produced by Avi Arad, Kevin Feige and Gale Anne Hurd and will be executive produced by Michael Helfant, David Womark, and Ari Arad. Marvel Studios is currently casting the project.
The Incredible Hulk is being independently produced by Marvel Studios through its $525 million, non-recourse film finance facility and will be distributed domestically and in several international territories by Universal Pictures.
Feige commented, "The Incredible Hulk will be the type of fun, high-octane event film people have come to expect from Marvel. We could not be more excited about this project and our summer 2008 prospects now that we have both our green goliath and our highly-anticipated Iron Man set for release."
Helfant added, "We're very happy that Universal is distributing The Incredible Hulk. We have a history together and this is a great opportunity for both Marvel and Universal to take the Hulk film franchise to another level."
I wonder if they'll have Eric Bana back to play Bruce Banner? I think the first C.G.I Hulk film was Grossly under rated, (As was the Daredevil film) I'm looking forward to the Captain America film and the new Spiderman film as well.
Actor Edward Norton is to play the lead role in the forthcoming Incredible Hulk film, to be released next year. Norton, who recently starred in The Illusionist, will take over the role from Munich star Eric Bana, Marvel Studios has confirmed.
The firm has also confirmed the movie, to be released on 13 June 2008, will be directed by Louis Leterrier whose credits include The Transporter.
Ang Lee's take on the comic book hero was released in 2003.
'High-octane'
The 2003 film made a strong opening, but failed to match the box office returns of other Marvel releases, including Spider-Man, X-Men and Ghost Rider.
The new version of Hulk will be less serious than the last and more in tune with the comic book series, according to Marvel.
Ang Lee's 2003 Hulk was greeted with mixed reviews
The film will focus on Hulk alter-ego Bruce Banner, who is on the run, and his efforts to cure the condition which transforms him into the green monster.
The scriptwriter is Zak Penn, who penned the X-Men sequels.
Co-producer Kevin Feige said the film would be "a fun, high-octane event", adding "we could not be more excited about this project".
Sounds great, i like Edward Norten, very good and underrated an actor, and while i wasent to keen on the original Hulk Movie, it was decent enough, but this sounds like it will be better. Now if only someone can come up with a She-Hulk movie!
Brigette Nielsen? urgh, never heard that one MIB, but if so, such wrong choice to play her, She-Hulk is very attractive in her green form and has a great charm and humour from the comic books iv read of her, and of course that lame tv animation of the Hulk, Brigette has none of the qualities, so if she was the She Hulk, it would have been awful truly.
Yup, after a bit of Googling I can confirm that a live action She-Hulk with La Neilsen almost did happen...from Wiki:
A live-action motion picture was planned in the late 1980s with Carl Gottlieb as writer and production by Tamara Asseyez. Marvel Comics had been interested in producing the film for several years due to the prior success of the Hulk television series. At the time Marvel Comics did not yet have the self-sustaining finances they have today to generate big budget films for their characters. Thus, they often sought out outside financial backers for various projects. The now bankrupt New World Pictures was one of the main studios used. Knowing that female characters were a harder sell on the big screen, Marvel Comics hired statuesque actress Brigitte Nielsen to pose for photos dressed in She-Hulk garb in order to give potential investors a visual idea of what can be done with the character. Brigitte had previously filmed a movie for Marvel Comics in 1985 (Red Sonja) and they felt she was the best candidate for the role. Not finding success with U.S. investors, Marvel took the photos to pitch the idea overseas to find little interest there as well. Alas the only real interest found were in comic book readers who discovered the photos printed in various magazines at the time.
Nice find there but wow, how lame does she look..Thank goodness that movie never came to fruition. Would love to see a proper She Hulk Movie with a far more attractive actress as the lovely, friendly green heroine in the future :).
You know this The Hulk may be grey in the new Incredible Hulk movie business thats been floating around the internet for the last couple of days? Well, as it turns out, he wont be. Move along, nothing to see here!
How do we know this? Well, just this afternoon we spoke exclusively to Avi Arad, ace comic book movie producer and the guy whose casual mention of a new colour at a round table in LA sparked a net-geek frenzy on a scale rarely seen, and he confirmed it. Simple.
It was a joke! laughs Arad, in town to talk up Spider-Man 3, which opens on May 4. Heres what it was. There were 30 people around a table, and they said is there going to be a grey Hulk? And I was thinking about it and I said, who knows? It was one of those moments. I had just got back from Japan and I was trying to talk about Spider-Man and this guy was pushing me on The Hulk so I thought Ill be coy. I dont know what colour it is, and all of a sudden its headline news.
But Arad did mention a new colour so will the eponymous star of Louis Letteriers movie, due out in 2008, still be green? Or orange? Or pink with yellow stripes?
Its a different shade of green, confirms Arad. But the colour is not like the old Hulk. And no, theres no grey Hulk.
Talk of a grey Hulk had led to fevered speculation that this version of Ol Green/Greyskin would have some intelligence, and even be able to speak, much like the grey Hulk in the comic books. However, not content with debunking one rumour, Avi swiftly shot down another.
Hell be instinctive, like a primal creature. Thats whats interesting. Theres no smarts. My dog is the gentlest animal out there, but he hates the plumber. He wont fight with anybody, hates the plumber!
Of course, The Hulk will be taking on a bigger foe than The Plumber in The Incredible Hulk, namely The Abomination, but Arad is adamant that Marvel and Universal are heading in the right direction with the movie, particularly the casting. Last weeks news that Edward Norton indie darling and star of resolutely uncommercial films, for the most part had signed on to play Bruce Banner. Especially when it was further revealed that he had actually turned down the Ang Lee version, in 2003. So, why the change of heart for Norton?
I think we have a much better story, reveals Arad. I think he likes Louis Leterrier. Its a very different movie, one of my personal goals was to make another Hulk movie where Hulk is heroic, lovable, the real Frankenstein story. Thats what we set out to do. To me, I was stuck literally if it wasnt Ed Norton. I was sitting, thinking he has to make it happen.
Arad also mentioned that the casting of an amazing Betty Banners love interest should be confirmed within the next couple of days. Keep em peeled, people!
Actor William Hurt is to join the cast of the upcoming Incredible Hulk film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The 57-year-old Oscar-winner will play General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, a military man who has devoted his life to capturing the comic book character.
He is also the father of Betty Ross - the love interest of the Hulk's human alter-ego, Bruce Banner.
Edward Norton will play the title role in the Universal Pictures film, set to be released in June 2008.
Liv Tyler has been signed to play Betty, while Britain's Tim Roth has been cast as villainous Emil Blonsky, aka The Abomination.
The film, which follows Ang Lee's 2003 blockbuster Hulk, will be directed by Louis Leterrier.
Hurt, who won a best actor Oscar in 1986 for Kiss of the Spider Woman, was seen earlier this year in Robert De Niro's film The Good Shepherd.
His other films include Children of a Lesser God, The Big Chill and A History of Violence.
Another good signing for this. Hopefully it can live up to the hype.
In fact to update from that I havfe a breakdown of the trailer Which can be found HERE by the director Louis Letterier.
Thats Ty Burrell on the left playing Leonard Samson. Samson is a very famous comic-book character in the realm of Hulk. Hes the psycho-therapist who thinks he can cure Bruce Banners (Edward Norton) illness through psycho-therapy. And theres a little bit of a one-on-one in our movie. Bruces struggle is the whole story of our movie Universal did a really great job in putting this teaser together because it gives you the main information. That guy doesnt want that superpower. Its like Spider-Man: My power, my curse. He really doesnt want that its too big for him. This is Prometheus having the fire and not wanting it anymore. He opened the door to an uber-power and wants to get rid of it."
Youll see Bruce Banner transform in minute three. (Laughs) Minute three! Thats whats good about it and it was really important when I was accepting the movie. We're not treating it as an origin movie but: Bruce Banner stepping into his chair and the gamma bomb and everything. Hes the Hulk already, with the Hulk within him, and you get to understand how he came to be in this situation, his struggle in life, the other characters surrounding him and the enemies that he deals with and fights with."
Thats how he tries to control the beast within: breathing exercises, Brazilian jujitsu, stuff like that. We pick him up in the movie when hes in Brazil and hes trying to keep the monsters at bay, literally. Both the monster inside and the army chasing after him to harness his monster to create a supersoldier. So he uses Brazilian jujitsu and yoga and meditation techniques to keep the monster inside of him, And, also, if someone picks a fight with him, hes using that Brazilian jujitsu because jujitsu and aikido are more elusive martial arts hes deflecting the blows so he can run away and not get involved. Hes not a superhero, hes not Jason Bourne. Hes the anti-James Bond, the anti-Jason Bourne. Hes really the guy that doesnt want the fight. Unfortunately, as you can see from the teaser, he sucks at avoiding it!"
This is the first big Hulk-out and its guys picking a fight with Banner and cornering him. Weve got this huge action sequence in a bottling factory, which has got everything a good fight needs: soda, glass and big metal tanks. (Laughs) No, its cool. Its really like Ghost And The Darkness, the feel, where you only glimpse Hulk and its really scary. Like Alien, where you think youre seeing the Hulk but its not the Hulk its a tank. You think youre seeing a tank and its Hulk. I mean, there are some nice, interesting things. It was a nice test to start the visual effects with this scene to get a beautiful silhouette of the Hulk and beautiful textures for his skin, things like that."
General Ross (William Hurt) has a great line in the movie: Banner was an accident and something went really wrong or really right. He loves that thing and he wants to control it, to harvest it. He has another speech where he talks about the splitting of the atom: fire, the universe opens and there is a new force and somebody has to step up to the plate and not cower away from this thing but grab it. Hes the Ahab of this story, this alienated guy craving that power. Hes alienated himself from the army and his family, because hes obsessing about only one thing: the Hulk, the Hulk, the Hulk."
Tim Roth is Emil Blonsky, who becomes Abomination. Hes an ace, but hes an ace that is kind of over the hill. I really wanted to work with Tim Roth; hes an amazing actor and hes extraordinary on the screen. When I met Tim I was like, God! He was so good and had so much energy that I said, Blomsky must be Tim Roth. I had to push Marvel, Edward, everybody was hesitant to get Tim, but he really added a new dimension to the character. He is the opposite of Bruce Banner hes a fighter, hes a machine, hes a very effective, cool-as-a-cucumber soldier that is over the hill 38, 39 years old has finished his life as a soldier, should be a Colonel by now and has never accepted that failure. He loves being a fighter, loves being on the field."
" I really wanted to justify [Abominations] appearance. I really wanted to wrap my head around the original scaley-with-big-ears monster that was in the comic book, but I couldnt justify it. The guy isnt crossed with a fish; hes not crossed with a lizard. Just like the Hulk hes an über-human his body, everything, grows out. And the way he gets injected with the serum, hes shot in the skin and the muscles, and shot inside the spine. That makes his bones grow thicker and bigger and longer, making him a super-weapon. So hes got that spine that flares out, which becomes a weapon. Hes got elbows that stick out and become these martial arts, Chinese knives things that can slash back and forth. Hes got this tongue thing and the heel-spikes so hes a killing machine. Its pretty cool, its funny. Hes got bones sticking out, so it becomes like an exo-skeleton which he uses as armour..."
...What might throw you off [about Abominations colour] in the trailer is that theres fire. Since there are lots of layers of skin and hes kind of transparent, he reflects whatevers around him. Since both he and Hulk are gamma monsters, they both have to be gamma green. Hes brand-new, hes a new monster, so hes unstable and not perfectly green, but hes still very green. If you look at him in broad daylight, he looks like the animation from the comic book, that darker, deeper green. If I were to show you a picture of the Hulk in that street at the end, when theyre running at each other, theres so much fire around them that he looks like an orange monster. But hes not an orange monster hes green."
" Betty (Liv Tyler) is obviously his love interest, but because its not an origin story shes also his soulmate. She is the only woman. He can have potential new loves like in Brazil, youll see this beautiful girl that flirts with him but he has one love and thats Betty and hes not focusing on other people. Betty is the one. But shes not only his saviour; shes his demise. Like every good female character in a comic book, its because of her that the hero is chased by the villain. And by coming too close to her, hes going to risk getting caught."
" [We released the trailer quite late because] no shots are finished yet. Thats why we took so long to release the teaser, because unlike the other movies coming out this summer, our main character relies on so much calculation and technique. None of the shots in this trailer are finished shots, but I think its decent enough and it shows the audience what were going for. Theres a different version of the teaser that will only be shown in movie theatres where you see a close-up of the Hulks face as he comes out of the darkness and cries to [Betty]. A full close-up, like full-screen. And until we had that shot right I didnt want to release it. Thats why it took so long for usI never saw that Superbowl spot [that drew criticism of Ang Lees film for showing Hulk unfinished]. Ive asked for it and theyve said, No, no, you dont want to see that. (Laughs) Anyway, I would have never allowed anything to come out that I wasnt happy with."
This sequence is toward the end of the movie. But our final scene, our final battle unlike a normal movie where the final fight scene is six minutes long, ours is 26 minutes long! So you get 26 minutes of two monsters pummelling each other through New York City, jumping up and down, ripping helicopters from the sky and stuff. You know, lots of green blood on the street, splashed all around. So its pretty cool. For me it was one of the most exciting elements of making the movie: I have two monsters fighting in New York City, thats going to be fun. You know, how do you come up with fun, original stuff? And youve seen just the beginning of the face-off, with the monsters running towards each other BOOM! they smash into each other, and then craziness ensues. Some humans try to get out of the way but no, they cant theres a little bit of collateral damage! (Laughs) Theres a bit of a bodycount. Not on account of the Hulk the Hulks a saviour but Blomsky is ruthless."
Hulk Smash American Gladiators! Source: The Hollywood Reporter May 23, 2008
The Hollywood Reporter says NBC will air a special "Incredible Hulk"-themed episode of "American Gladiators" with guest star Lou Ferrigno sharing the arena with host Hulk Hogan.
The "Gladiators" episode will include a hulked-out Gladiator Arena and an exclusive 60-second preview from the June 13 release The Incredible Hulk.
The "Hulk"-themed "Gladiators" episode airs June 9.
That'll be fun. Lou Ferringo as joint host with Hogan should be hilarious.
About 1,000 pairs of Hulk Hands will be given to audience members to wear throughout the episode, and some also will wear Hulk masks. Gladiators will likewise use Hulk Hands while competing in the Gauntlet.
