na man Wrestlemania 14 blatantly gets it, Birth of Attitude. It's different manias for different moods. atm 14 but I'm sure it could change to another soon.
Hikaru vs Amazing Kong, great match, but Amazing kong sadly pinned the lovely Hikaru with a devastating splash. From this match, iv become a huge fan of Hikaru as my sig and av attests to now (i still love Yuki though!).
The Bloody vs Chikako Shiatori (Jd 1997) tidy match, both gave there all until a lame botched count by the iditotic male ref ended it rather aprumptly.Needless to say Shiatori beat on him after the match rather stiff, quite funny ^^!
Last wrestling match I watched was Yoshihiro Takayama vs Yuji Nagata in an NWF vs IWGP Title unification match at New Japan's Ultimate Crush Dome show from 2003.
Yoshiko Tamura vs Yuki Miyazaki, i knew i had this match somewhere, the 2 most beautiful lovely and talented Joshi girls going at it in a fine match with some good wrestling and comedy on Yukis pa. Yoshiko pinned Miyazaki with a devastating suplex much to my sadness.Stiill i adore them both ^^. Also saw Makoto vs a young girl wrestler, from Ice Ribbon, fun and the young girls are unbelivable talented at their age.
Azumiy Hyoga/Marcela vs a couple of wrestlers whos names i forget now, but a fun match with the heel team beating Hyoga and marcela after a superplex and pinned Hyoga. Good match up but Hyoga was pretty weak in this, espicially when looking at her japan matches when she is one of the best right now, but this match is from 2004 so a little while back now.
Last wrestling I watched was the New Japan Catch The Victory II show from 24/12/07.
The card:
NJPW "NEW JAPAN NEXT ~CATCH THE VICTORY II~", 12/24/07 (Samurai! TV) Tokyo Korakuen Hall 1,695 Fans
1. Takashi Iizuka, Ryusuke Taguchi, Tiger Mask & Taichi Ishikari beat Jado, Gedo, Tomohiro Ishii & Tomoaki Honma (9:22) when Tiger pinned Honma. 2. NEW JAPAN NEXT Match #1: Koji Kanemoto beat Tetsuya Naito (11:50) with an ankle hold. 3. NEW JAPAN NEXT Match #2: Manabu Nakanishi beat Mitsuhide Hirasawa (5:00) with an Argentine backbreaker. 4. NEW JAPAN NEXT Match #3: Yuji Nagata beat Yujiro (8:39) with the Thunder Death Driver. 5. Togi Makabe & Toru Yano beat Riki Choshu & AKIRA (9:01) when Yano used the Oni Koroshi on AKIRA. 6. Masahiro Chono & Jushin Thunder Liger beat Hirooki Goto & Minoru (14:29) when Chono used a Shining Yakuza kick on Minoru. 7. Hiroshi Tanahashi & Wataru Inoue beat Shinsuke Nakamura & Milano Collection AT (18:07) when Tanahashi used a Landslide on Milano.
Good little show leading up the Dome show on Friday!
Oz Academy Yuki Miyazaki/Genki Misae vs Dynamite Kansai/Chiaki nagashima, good match, Yuki wrestling in a more serious way to how she does in Neo and all the better for it. Good match but damn Dynamite for beating Yuki.
NEO Yoshiko Tamura vs Genki Misae Strong match, hard hitting, as you would expect from the 2 and yoshiko pulled out the win defending her Neo Pacific title.
LLPW Eagle Sawai vs Dump Matsumoto Boring, same old stuff from these 2 veterans, brawling everywhere, punches and kicks in slow motion since both are far past their prime.
Oz Academy the return of my original joshi crush Sugar sato/Nagashima vs Ozaki and Shimoda (i think), Sato looks as cute as ever in her white outfit and a pretty fun little match up.Great stuff.
Neo Pacific title Emi Sakura vs Yoshiko Tamura, very enjoyable match, Emi is rather quite cute and a very good performer so i enjoyed this match between 2 girls who would soon wear tag gold together after this match.
Kyoko Kimura vs Aja Kong Brutal, stiff, fun, what else? Aja destroyed Kimura towards the end,it amazes me how much Kyoko does the job when she is probably one of the most unique and strong looking girls out there in japan today, but she seems to lose most matches then she wins.
Hulk Hogan vs Stan Hansen (from Japan) A world of difference from his WWF/E matches, here he actually shows he can WRESTLE. A great match.
Ice Ribbon Sakura Emi vs Makoto, utterly weird, since the matches of this promotion take place in a tiny room with the mat close to some fans and 2 windows, so what you see is a couple of girls wrestling in a living room kind of thing! Quite weird but the matches are actually very good! This one was fine and some unique offence from the window where they sometimes climb up to use arieal moves, theres even some puro guys who wrestle for Emi in there to..Its a world of difference from a ring to a room with a huge mat in! I have the feeling some of the guys sat around watching the girls are a little pervy though..
Yuki Miyakazi/Genki Misae vs kyoko Kimura/mishcef, pretty decent tag, yuki and Genki were obviously the faces, but Kyoko is a strange one. One day she can be one of the best in joshi, the other, she just messes around and jobs quite easily. Here she was pretty good, and got the pin of genki misae which is no easy feat.
Fairly slow paced match with Baba dominating with holds and Jumbo making some spirited comebacks. Baba won with a Side Russian Leg Sweep of all things. Dory Funk Jr was in the crowd watching.
AJPW - Giant Baba vs Jumbo Tsuruta - 1/5/76
Much better and longer match with a quicker pace to it. Jumbo got in more offence this although Baba still got his fair share of holds and wear downs in as well. Crowd was into Jumbo for this one but Baba took the win again with a Back Suplex variation.
Meiko Satumura vs Kyoko Kimura, hard hitting brawl, great action, Meiko gets the pinfall with a scorpion rising blow to the afro haired Kimura.
JD Star
Cherry vs Toshie Ueematsu, Cherry is cute but totally outclassed in this one,Toshie wins this but a good little match though it seems to be Toshie is getting a little lazier these days.
I will never tire of watching that match. It was about the same time the WWE started losing its direction, and I doubt they will ever have rivalries and matches as good as the ones that these guys got put on.
The list from 2007 not in the 2008 Rumble match are:
Chris Ben0it (deceased) RVD (left) Sabu (left) Sandman (left) Booker T (left) Chris Masters (left) Gregory Helms (injured) Matt Hardy (injured) Super Crazy (not been on TV in months) Tommy Dreamer (not been on TV in months) Kevin Thorn (not been on TV in months) Ric Flair (has a match) MVP (has a match) Edge (has a match) Jeff Hardy (has a match) Randy Orton (has a match)
With CM Punk bound to added to that list as current ECW Champion
Those returning in 2008
HBK Undertaker Hardcore Holly Carlito Shelton Benjamin John Morrison Miz Big Daddy V Finlay Great Khali Kane
Im guessing the likes of paul london, Jamie Noble and Wang Yang wont be in the rumble this year? I used to love the rumble but its been pretty poor the last few years. Anyway back on topic ^^ Last match i saw was
IceRibbon Emi Sakura vs Makoto (a second match) Poor little Makoto, beaten to a pulp by the veteran and iceribbon teacher for the girls, she didnt have a chance.Makoto is quite cute in a scarey way and has some potential but didnt show it in this one.
Neo Yuki Miyazaki/Tanny mouse vs Saiyuuki impersonators, Monkey, Pigsy and tripitaka. Fun match! I guess this was for the upcoming movie of this in japan because it played a few trailoers then the music video for the movie before a few girls came out to the ring as them, complete squash until one of the girls belted Tanny with a stick for what it looked like a dq finish? Pretty weird yet fun.
Im guessing the likes of paul london, Jamie Noble and Wang Yang wont be in the rumble this year?
Noble and Jimmy Wang Yang are in the Rumble. I just those from last year's Rumble that are returning this year. Check out the PPV thread for the curent list of entrants.
A slightly unusual concept for an 8 man tag match in which two partners work as a tandem until one is pinned then another from his team replaces him until all 8 men have entered the match, when it is one fall to a finish.
That match sounds kind of like the JWP thunder queen battle which was a mix of elimanation tag, singles and ironman match gimmicks.Last match i watched was just an hour back on you tube and it was a 1993 survivors series match which feature Randay Savage, Ramon, Jannetty and 123 Kid vs IRS, Adam Bomb, Rick Martel and Diesil. A couple of things surprised me in this because one, Randy savage was still in WWE by this time, two, Diesil, at this time i thought was a monster heel but did nothing in the match and was quickly pinned in the first 10 minutes of the match and three the kid and Jannetty won the match. I lost Sky for the 1993 period so i cant recall to much about it but wow, it sucked.
Id love to see more classic mens puro stuff espicially Kobashi and Misawa, the tag match with Furnas and Kroffatt sounds great. (whatever happened to them in WWE?).Iv not had a lot of time to see much joshi these days. Might watch some tonight.
A lot of slow mat work and power exchanges for the opening half of the match which lead to some short term memory loss for both guys. Kobashi spent about 5 minutes working on jumbo's legs which Jumbo then forget to sell and after returning the favour, Kobashi fauiled to sell that too! Crowd was pro-Kobashi yet not Anti-Jumbo. The big guy won after a Backdrop suplex. Fun old generation vs new generation match.
Kenta Kobashi & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi vs Dan Krofatt & Doug Furnas - 25/05/92
The most striking thing about this match was the crowd. There was probably about 2,000 people there but damn they were noisy. The match was clipped by about 3 minutes but damn - what a match. Great work from everyone involved and superbly executed. The action never let up during the whole 21 minutes and the false finishes were coming thick and fast. The pop for the pin by Kobashi was deafening, sounding more like a packed MSG than a small hall. Surprisingly, Kikuchi was super over here and not once did he play second fiddle to Kobashi. If Kroffat and Furnas were allowed to work like this in the WWF they probably would have been more over than they were. The fans were partisan to say the least, going bat poop for everything their native heroes did. Even the announcer was going mad: "DDT-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!"
Awesome match. A must see if you've not done so yet.
NEO "BE HAPPY AGAIN ~ 10TH ANNIVERSARY", 06.01.2008 - First Dream of the New Year: Haruka Matsuo vs. Fuka
Haruka appears to have adopted some heelish tendencies since her title win, not smiling or acknowledging the crowd during her entrance. Fuka to me comes across more like a wannabe J-Pop idol than a wrestler. Both girls go for early submissions, including an interesting Single leg Boston Crab incorporating a Fujiwara arm bar by Haruka. Fuka got her own back with some arm work and many string but failed attempts to lock in her cross arm breaker. While Haruka is showing more fire in her offence Fuka's kicks look good but are ultimately weak with no "oomph" behind them, making Haruka's selling of them a bit lame. Just as the near falls started the match ended with a 15 minute time limit draw - presumably due to both women being title holders.
A good match for what it was but could have been so much more with a longer time limit.
first round match (8 women tournement) Yuko Shiina vs Misae Genki
Good if not short match.A lot of power moves and some submisisons well excuted.Surprised Yuko got the duke with an ankle lock so easy in about 8 minutes, Misae over matches her in size and power but of course the underdog Yuko somehow pulls it out to make it into the next round. (im watching random stuff right now, usually i watch whatver, the latest stuff, then old 1990s AJW).
first round matches Tanny mouse vs Etsuko Mita Short but fun little match, Tanny dominated with Etsuko doing little much. Had a fun little hardcore style fighting about the building but ended pretty swiftly in the ring.Tanny as usual was fun but Mita was noway close to her best.
Yuki Miyazaki vs Momo Nakanishi Better match, longer and more funny, lots of humour as you would expect with my baby Yuki who both her and momo smacked each others bums for fun. Some nice counter wrestling,Miyazaki proving shes very capable a wrestler, espicially with an awesome Electric chair to momo, dropping her at her front then snapping back into a quick fire German suplex.Nice stuff Yuki! Sadly Momos only piece of offence was a hurricanrana which beat yuki :(.. Next match should be a good un between Kyoko Inoue and Yoshiko tamura!
Kyoko Inoue vs Yoshiko Tamura Sorry to post a few times, only watching the show in parts.Kyoko looked a bit moody in this one while Tamura was the obvious crowd faverate.A tad disapointing with a lot of repeated spots in and outside the ring, some good near falls with Yoshiko getting the majoirty of blows, northen lights and T bone suplexs yet kyoko kept coming back. Stunningly it only took a powerbomb to get the 3 count on Tamura, who took a few nasty lariats but never looked in danger of losing.Could have been better but alright for what it was.
NJPW "CIRCUIT 2008 NEW JAPAN ISM IN RYOGOKU" - 17.02.2008
Manabu Nakanishi, Takashi Iizuka, Koji Kanamoto & Tiger Mask vs. Ryusuke Taguchi, Yujiro, Taichi Ishikari & Tetsuya Naito
Standard New Japan 8 man with everyone getting their licks in. It's a little weird seeing Taguchi taking so much punishment for his team as a former Junior champ. Yujiro and Naito looked good here. Ishikari came a cross like a Marafuji wannabe to me. Fun if unspectacular opener.
Wataru Inoue vs. Christopher Daniels
Loads of leg work from Daniels in this one with Inoue always on the defence. In one spot, Inoue went for a Fisherman's Buster and went to sell his inured leg by falling under the weight of Daniels and promptly dropped Daniels right on the top of his head! Quality wise - roughly the same as their Dome match.
Riki Choshu, Masahiro Chono, Shiro Koshinaka & Super Strong Machine vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Jado, Gedo & Tomohiro Ishii
Tenzan still has his silly horned mask and his mullet, except he's let the side and top of his hair grow instead of the shaved look. Wrestling wise he didn't do that much to be honest, with the most major thing being him costing Ishii the match. Koshinaka was the most over guy here. Meh match.
Minoru & Prince Devitt vs. Jushin Thunder Liger & AKIRA
Devitt is starting to resemble a young Chris Benoit at the moment. A lot of dropkicks in this match. I wish Minoru did more here except throw dropkicks and a cross armbreaker. The RISE guys were booked as the underdogs here and didn't get to look like champs. A win over the LEGEND guys would have done that but instead the old timers got the belts. Good match though.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. A.J. Styles
Best match on the show for me and much better than their TNA match a few years back. AJ got some good heel heat from the crowd yet still wowed them with his work. In one funny spot Tanahashi went to slide out of the ring and ended up knocking a cameraman over! good work from both guys although the ref bump was unnecessary (Was Russo booking?) and the finish seemed a little anticlimactic.
Giant Bernard & Travis Tomko vs. Togi Makabe & Toru Yano
Tomko had a "lets get this over with" look on his face so the title change was inevitable after that. Some liberal interference from GBH was a plus for the challengers although it was Yano who was splashed through the table by Bernard. Okay for what it was but the title switch got a good pop.
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kurt Angle
May not have been technically perfect and it could have done with another 10 minutes to really tell the story but it was good enough for what we got. Angle seemed to underestimate Nakamura early then got the shock of his life when Nakamura would give as good as he got. Definitely a "feel good" moment when it ended and a good crowd heat. The overall presentation was very well done and gave the whole deal an importance it deserved.
Overall, this was a pretty good show and worth checking out.
First off, Suzuki with blonde hair and white trunks was totally bizarre to see. This was a really good match despite the fact that neither men did that match. Loads of mat work to start of with then plenty of Dragon Leg Whips, Shining Wizards, Sleeperholds and a Moonsault. Yet they managed to tell a compelling story and put on a solidly entertaining match for over 25 minutes. Great stuff and the crowd was really into it as well which makes a change for All Japan.
AJPW/Nana Natsume Presents "PLAYBOY CHANNEL NIGHT 2008" -15/02/2008
I suppose I should get this out of the way now the girls were gorgeous, a fact not lost on the cameramen during the show who took every opportunity to film them. I have to say that if this was done in the US it would probably be a lot tackier and trashier for wanting a better term. For some reason despite having Playboy model in a wrestling show promoted by a porn actress, this didnt feel like a sleazy event at all.
Overall it was a very enjoyable show and the young guns took the opportunity to show their stuff and equipped themselves very well.
Onto the matches:
Shimizu & CJ Otis vs. T28 & KUSHIDA
Everything about CJ Otis screamed early 90s WCW jobber here, from his bright orange tights and long blonde girly hair to his bland persona. Shimizu was entertaining enough while T28 and KUSHIDA made a neat little team. Match was okay but a pretty formulaic sprint tag match truth be told.
Hajime Suruga & Yuta Yoshikawa vs Seiya Sanada & Keita Yano
Really good match here. Much more deliberate in pace to the opener with plenty of mat wrestling and exchanges of holds that built to a nice finish. Sanada appears to have been watching old Misawa tapes judging by the way hes throws his forearm strikes. Yano should ditch the surfer outfit and learn not to be in such a hurry with his moves, otherwise he has potential to be really good. Probably my favourite match of the night along with the tourney final.
Nobutaka Araya, Kikutaro & Apple Miyuki vs. Kaz Hayashi, Joe Doering & Kana
Obviously this was a comedy bout of the night, although ironically it was Kaz Hayashi who took it seriously while everyone else played it for laughs. Too many moments to highlight but Kikutaro played the lecherous role with Kana. At one point grabbing a video camera from ringside and zooming in on Kanas nether regions! Arguably the only sleazy part of the night.
Kaji Yamato & Taishi Takizawa vs. T28 & KUSHIDA
Another fairly quick paced match that was largely a sprint with some cool spots thrown in for god measure. Okay for what it was.
Manabu Soya & Daichi Kakimoto vs. Seiya Sanada & Keita Yano
Following on from their match with some good mat work and chain wrestling. At one point Yano blew a springboard BME and almost landed on his head. A step below the earlier match but a good bout nonetheless.
Giant Jet vs. Rabbit Boy
Two masked guys in a well executed but fairly generic 8 minute spot fest. Rabbit Boy who seems to trying to be a Bunny version of Tiger Mask did one cool spot where he walked the top rope then hit a dropkick before ending this with an SSP.
U-30 One Night Tag Tournament - Final: Manabu Soya & Daichi Kakimoto vs T28 & KUSHIDA
Good match to finish the tourney. The smaller guys had to slow down their game and proved they could wrestle as well as fly. The larger team worked over T28s shoulder thus putting their opponents in the underdog role, who fought back valiantly. They popped out some cool double team moves in the closing few minutes which steadily built up to an exciting climax. Good stuff.
