I'm excited about it coming back on the 31st of this month!!

Does anyone else watch it?

I like David Tennant! He's ace in the show. Although, I never watched Doctor Who before. Well I watched one episode with Christopher Ecclestone in it and David Tennant is much better. He's an awesome actor. :>)

Thought the trailer for the rest of the series was amazing, with a glimpse of the bloke from Life on Mars.

The only problem I've had with the current (Russell T. Davies controlled) run is the lack of intergalactic locations and adventures. 90% of the stories have happened on Earth either past present or future. What is the point of the TARDIS being able to travel through time and space if they always arrive in London or New New York?

Tennant is good a the Doctor but he talks too fast so the technobable and his jokes are often lost. Martha is growing on me but she should wear her hair down a lot more - she looks hotter that way! wink.gif

Finaly, I agree that Russell T. Davies should remember that just because he is gay the majority of the world isn't and this show shouldn't be a conduit for him to flaunt his sexuality.

Otherwise, I'm a happy Whovian! biggrin.gif

I actually prefer Torchwood to Dr Who, the first series with Chris Ecclestone was fantastic, the second series was so so, but this series, i just havent got into it at all,i actually like david tennant and thought he was exellent in the BBC drama Casonova, he seems very likeable and a nice chap, quite funny to, but as the docter..i just dont really like him, no idea why.I like John Barrowman far better as captain Jack who is a great character, and his show is far more exciting to watch i think.

Torchwood was okay  but a lot of it seemed to be a vainty project for Russell T. Davis, pushing the gay element a lot and because it was post watershed, shoving in loads of swearing and sex for the sake of it.

The best thing about the show was the gorgeous Naoko Mori as Toshiko Sato:

Yes that was a nice twist when Yana revealed himself as The Master. However, the Master always had a beard but I suppose this is the new look Doctor Who...

I just wish that they'd stop setting the stories on Earth.

Quite a good episode the other night, my family love Dr Who but iv never been a huge fan but it
seemed pretty intense, i loved the female alien character and it made me sad when he killed her, but nice to see Captain Jack back in the show, Next weeks episode is the second from last isnt it? So im going to watch it to.

Superb episode. I love the Master as a villian, and derek Jacobi was brill, The bloke from Lifee on Mars John Simm is a bit lacking in the sinister dept. but I'll reserve judgement until the next episode. Although I thought the Master had run out of regenerations so I don't know how the reborn bit works...

And Eric Roberts was last seen as the master and he was great.

I think the last 3 or 4 episodes have been terrific, the family of blood stuff was moving, memorable. Then Sally Sparrow looked a companion in the making, then the master being revealed was such a thrill! I agree Benoit, the alien lady was sweet and it seemed a waste of a good character to kill her.

Its clever how the series ties together, the watch revealed in the Family of blood playing a role in the masters return.

Don't know about that. But there was a report in the paper yesterday that David Tennant had had a hissy fit because The Master's Sonic Screwdriver was bigger and flasher than his.....

The Zarbi. They looked cool for giant rubber suits in 1965 but with some CGI or modern design they'd be awesome.

The Yeti. Again, modern design could help make them even scarier.

The Sea Devils. See above plus an advernture set underwater would make a nice change from London or New York.

Thought the master was funny and charismatic, and while ocassionaly the balance between humour and drama was iffy, it was a lot of fun.

That's something I find a little off putting about Russell T. Davies's scripts - that he throws too much humour into the stories at the wrong moments.

But it was a fun episode. I liked how they kept the Gallifrey costumes the same as the old ones instead of dicking about with them.

The Master oozed charisma, Im kinda rooting for him, he is like a charismatic Pro Wrestling heel.

Ok so he wants to wipe out life on earth, but he's no all bad...he vaporiised the uppity American President...something GW Bush has been asking for, for years...

Indeed. There were loads of other crowd pleasing moments...the bit where here come the drums plays and the Masters wife dances to it....the bit where the dying cabinet minister says youre insane and the Master gives him two thumbs up.

Anyone ready to place bets on the identity of the Toclafane? Im hoping for Timelords...Id be disappointed for it to be the Daleks or Cyberman.

It's bound to be the Daleks T. Davies is obssesed with them, plus the 'It would break your heart' comment kinda leans that way. As good as John Simm is he's still not sinister enough for the Master. He's more like Batman's Joker. Also, I wasn't liking the chat on the mobile moment with the lets go off and rule thae galaxy thing.

Yes, I did a double take at Captain Jack's comment too.

Apparently Russel T. Davies is moving on which is fine by me. Hopefully it means we'll get less self-indulgent stories and more set away from London or New New York in 100 years time. The whole point of the Dcotor was that he could travel to different planets yet he has either been on Earth in different times or aboard a travelling space craft.

Also, all stories should be at least two episodes long so that the problem isn't solved and wrapped up inside 30 minutes.

I really enjoyed the last half of this series, some excellent stuff.

Im not the biggest fan of the older series...like Tom Baker, Peter Davison...but never liked the Colin Baker/Sylvester McCoy era at all.

I think the updating of Doctor has been a remarkable success all in all, managing to keep most hardcore fans happy, while still attractig a large mainstream audience. Great stuff.

Kylie Minogue is going to play the "companion" in the Christmas episode.

Martha is going to appear in three episodes of Torchwood then return to the Doctor half way through the next series...only to find that another companion has joined the TARDIS. I just hope it is an alien and not another human from Earth.

My favs were Tom Baker (He was my first Doctor that I remember and I grew up with him, such a shock when he regenerated into a vet!) and Sylvester McCoy.  I couldn't stand Colin Baker and Peter Davidson.  Although the villians in the McCoy era were crap those little slug things really got on my nerves.

Best episode ever..?  Earthshock.  The one where Adrick is killed saving the others from the Cybermen.  And what happened to them being able to be killed only by Gold?  The continuity in Dr.Who is appaling.

I liked episodes where different versions of the Doctor would meet.

I guess the one really famous villain we havent seen yet is Davros, but he terrified me as a kid. I want more of the Master...

William Hartnell's Doctor was a crabby old man with a sharp mind who didn't suffer fools gladly, yet he showed that underneath his gruff exterior was a gentle and considerate man.

Patrick Troughton was a little more esoteric and playful but stood his ground when need be. It's probably harder for younger fans to warm to the first two Dcotors as they were a product of their time and you can see just how "rigid" things were on 60's TV.

Jon Pertwee was a good Doctor. He had many facets to his character. He could be very caring and avuncular to his female companions like Jo Grant, or he could be a tough and no nonsense guy when dealing with the politics of the Brigadier and UNIT. Plus he was the first Doctor to get into fights.

Tom Baker seem to have played it for laughs but was capable of being serious or injecting pathos into a scene where necessary. He was "My" Doctor growing up.

Peter Davidson was fairly bland although he did get into more physical scrapes than the others.

Colin Baker was a little pompous and brusque. He didn't last too long.

Sylvester McCoy was...erm, well Sylvester McCoy really.

Mark McGann was an abomination. We should never speak of this again.

Lest we forget Peter Cushing in the cinema for two Dalek films. His portrayal was a cross between Hartnell and Troughton.

Mark McGann? Who he? Do you mean Paul McGann?  His adversary The MAster was brilliantly played by the legend that is Eric Roberts though.

You forgot:

Christopher Ecclestone - Too northern

and the latest who is doing a admirable job.

There's so mnay McGann's I forgot which one it was who played the Doctor. I only watched it once and that was one time too many for me. hmm

I only listed up to McCoy as I was only reviewing the "Old" Dcotor's for Totoro's sake in response to his post about not seeing them.

I agree about Eccleston being "too Northern" but that is him all over really. "EE Ecky Thomp! E're coom t' Daleks!" biggrin.gif

Well the new assisitant is.... Catherine Tate

Comedian Catherine Tate is to play Doctor Who's new companion, reprising her role from the 2006 Christmas special, the BBC has announced.
She will join David Tennant for the complete 13-week run of the new series of Doctor Who, which is due to begin filming in Cardiff later this month.

Freema Agyeman, who played the Doctor's companion Martha Jones in the third series, will return mid-series.

Kylie Minogue will be starring in this year's Christmas special.

Tate will be returning to her role as Donna, the runaway bride who found herself transported into the Tardis as she prepared for her wedding on Christmas Eve.

The episode, broadcast on BBC One on Christmas Day, attracted an audience of 9.4 million.

Donna was invited by the Doctor to travel with him at the end of the episode, but the invitation was declined at the time.

"We are delighted that one of Britain's greatest talents has agreed to join us for the fourth series"

Russell T Davies

Tate was asked if she would like to become the Doctor's new companion at the press screening of the Christmas episode to which she replied, "I would love to, but no one has asked!"

Doctor Who's executive producer and head writer, Russell T Davies described Tate as an "absolute star" in The Runaway Bride episode.

"We are delighted that one of Britain's greatest talents has agreed to join us for the fourth series," he said.

"Viewers can expect more ambitious storylines and a whole host of guest stars in 2008."

Catherine Tate said: "I am delighted to be returning to Doctor Who.

"I had a blast last Christmas and look forward to travelling again through time and space with that nice man from Gallifrey."

Agyeman, 28, is to play Martha Jones in three episodes of spin-off show Torchwood, which producers have said will "expand" her character.

She replaced Billie Piper, who left at the end of the second series.

The fourth series of Doctor Who is due to debut on BBC One in Spring 2008.

A Christmas special starring David Tennant and Kylie Minogue will be screened on Christmas Day 2007.

R.I.P Doctor Who - you were my favourite resurrected Sci-Fi show until some idiot decided to add that talentless, unfunny, over hyped, ugly, worthless waste of space Catherine Tate to the full time cast thus runing it for me.

What a rubbish payoff to the series. The Master turned into a clown and then did a Ming the Merciless. Captain Jacks revelation was a bit left field. One question how did his head get so big then? And how comes he didn't warn the Doctor about stuff when he saw him?

I missed the Chjristmas episode so I don't know what Tate will be like. I'd still like to see Rose back, myself. And isn't it time they did a multiple doctors episode? They won't have too many chances to get Tom Baker back me thinks

Erm C.Jack just casually announced it in the last episode that when he was recruited on his planet for the military thats the nickname he got because he was the poster boy for recruitment.

Also, he somehow became imortal through a connection with the Doctor (The detailescapes me right now).

In case you weren't aware they are bringing back another 'classic' villian for the new series...

A group of Doctor Who's enemies - the Sontarans - will be revived, 35 years after first appearing in the BBC drama.

The warriors will feature in an episode which will also mark the return of Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones.

She will run into the Doctor's new companion - Donna Noble, played by Catherine Tate - for the first time.

Another plot for the new series will be a meeting between the Doctor and Agatha Christie, and guest stars will include Felicity Kendal and Sarah Lancashire.

There will also be appearances from Tim McInnerny, who played Percy in the first two series of Blackadder and Captain Darling in the fourth.

Peter Capaldi - a fierce spin doctor in political satire The Thick of It - and Phil Davis, who appeared in Quadrophenia and Bleak House, will also be seen on the show, the BBC has confirmed.

Doctor Who won top drama at the National TV Awards on Wednesday
The series, once again starring David Tennant as the Doctor, is due to be seen in the UK next spring. Filming is under way in Cardiff.

The run will begin with Donna tracking down the Doctor during an alien emergency in modern-day London.

Martha will be back halfway through the series, once actress Agyeman has appeared in three episodes of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood.

"Martha Jones returns in a fantastic storyline and the fans will get to see her in a whole new light," Agyeman promised.

The Sontarans were first seen on The Time Warrior, an episode of the show in 1973, when Jon Pertwee was in the lead role.

Christopher Ryan, known as Mike in 1980s TV sitcom The Young Ones, will play the head Sontaran.

And the tentacle-faced Ood will return in an episode called Planet of the Ood.

Rose is coming back!

Actress Billie Piper is to return to Doctor Who, the BBC has confirmed.
She will star in three episodes of the sci-fi drama, reprising her role as the Doctor's companion, Rose Tyler.

Rose's return will mean the Doctor has three assistants in next year's series - Donna, played by Catherine Tate, and Freema Agyeman as Martha.

The new series begins in March and will run for 13 episodes. There will be three special editions in 2009 before the show takes a break until 2010.

Piper left Doctor Who last year, when she was transported into a parallel universe.

Awards

Her character had proven a hit and the star won a number of awards for her performances. She was named most popular actress at the National Television Awards in 2005 and 2006.

A separate show based on Rose had been planned by writer and series producer Russell T Davies, but was scrapped when Davies decided the programme was "a spin-off too far".

Filming is currently under way in Cardiff for the new series of Doctor Who, which sees the Doctor meeting an old group of enemies - the Sontarans - 35 years after first encountering them.

Before that, the programme will return to television screens at Christmas with a special episode set on the Titanic, which will co-star singer and actress Kylie Minogue.

Rose coming back is cool. I hope she and Martha team up and beat the crap out of Catherine Tate!

I personally would rank The Three Doctors, Planet Of The Spiders, Curse Of Peladon and The Daemons over The Green Death for best Jon Pertwee stories.

Genesis of the Daleks is a classic though but I think today's fans might find the older shows a bit slow. My four year old nephew loves the Daleks but when I put on Death To The Daleks (from 1974) he couldn't stay focused on the story and kept asking where the Daleks where, yet he can watch the current shows with no problem.

I think Catherine Tate might be ok...she was middling in the Christmas special, but companions and Doctors often take 2 or 3 episodes to find their feet. Best known for comedy, she does have a background as serious actor. So the jury is out for me.

Glad to hear Rose is back.

That children in need special really made me yearn for a proper multi-doctor episode...

Sorry but Tate ruined the last Xmas special for me so the prospect of a 13 week run does not fill me with much joy. The sooner she is exterminated the better.
