My favorite Dr.Who has to be Earthshock (Peter Davidson) the Cybermen story which culminates in the death of Adric. his broken golden star badge as the credits roll at the end still haunts me to this day. I also loved the Tom Baker era.
Jury's out on Catherine Tate for me. Just have to wait and see how she does, but having 3 assistants could be a little bit of overload for me. GLOWlad is right i yearn for a multi Doc epoisode done proper.
Katarina and Sarah Kingdom were killed off in the 12 episode Dalek Master Plan in 1965 and Adric was killed off in Earthshock as DM said.
However, because Sara kingdom was only in the one story some records won't recognise her as a companion as she started off as an enemy then joined the Doctor in his fight against the Daleks.
you need watch the clasic doctor who with tom baker and jon pertwee as well.
the whloe series is fab if you want some recogmendations of episodes to watch please ask and if you have any Doctor Who questions ask and we can answer
MiB's best mate has been causing trouble for the good Doctor it seems....
Doctor Who star David Tennant has laughed off speculation that he is planning to quit the show at the end of the next series in 2008.
Comic actress Catherine Tate sparked rumours at the weekend when she said in a radio interview that she thought the next series would be Tennant's last.
Tate is due to join the Doctor in the Tardis as his new companion in 2008.
Tennant, speaking at the launch of the Christmas episode, said: "Catherine Tate stitched me up good and proper."
"I started getting all these phone calls on Saturday lunchtime saying apparently you're leaving Doctor Who," Tennant told the BBC. "Catherine Tate's just announced it on Radio 2 - thanks Catherine!"
He added: "I said to her on Monday morning did you know you've caused a minor diplomatic incident? She was completely oblivious that the phone had been ringing off the hook."
Tennant confirmed he was doing four Doctor Who specials in 2009, but there was no decision about the next series in 2010.
"I'm doing four more specials and beyond that no one's asked me to make any decisions and I'm quite happy to be enigmatic for as long as possible," he said.
The Christmas Day episode, Voyage Of The Damned, features Kylie Minogue as Astrid Peth, a waitress on board the Titanic.
Given the Doctor's form with his other companions it is no surprise that the two get to kiss during the adventure.
The special, which was screened before a celebrity audience at London's Science Museum, also features a new version of the theme tune.
The cast includes Geoffrey Palmer as the captain of the Titanic, and Bernard Cribbins - who featured in a big-screen Doctor Who adventure with Peter Cushing in 1966.
'Awesome'
The audience included Work and Pensions Secretary Peter Hain who told the BBC afterwards: "It was absolutely awesome. Millions are going to be glued to their TV sets."
Doctor Who writer and executive producer Russell T Davies said: "I'm delighted with the next series, we're doing stuff we've never done before and it's bigger and better than before."
He said Kylie Minogue was keen to do more acting again.
"She did this because I think that's the way her thoughts are heading. She's missed it and fancied that discipline. I'd cast her again like that," he said.
Asked by a child in the audience whether evil Dalek creator Davros would be resurrected for the new series, Davies said: "I don't know. I'm as in the dark as you are. Would you like us to?"
Amid much laughter, he stroked his chin and added: "I'll see what I can do."
The Titanic Episode was great. Really enjoyed it. Which is more than I can say for the preview of next season with Tate. Oh and for those of you who missed it last year they are repeating the Catherine Tate Christmas Special tonight.
The christmas special was ok but it wasent as exciting as i thought it was going to be.Kylie was poor in the show, but then she was never a great actress anyway.I dont look forward to catherine tate being in the show, shes probably the most unfunny person in the country (just pipping ricky gervais) and her precense just annoys me everytime i see her on screen.
I just finished watching the first season of torchwood, i know its not doctor who, but has some of the characters that have been in the new doctor who. wasnt a bad show, quite funny at times and the blood and gore helped a bit too.
MIB, that is basically how i found the whole first series, lol. I havent watched last nights episode yet, i am hoping to tnite, but it doesnt bode well from your interpretation
I never got into Dr. Who until recently. The "superior" half watches it nightly on Beeb3 (man is she pissed about the African Cup Of Nations!) and I've finally started watching it. Mainly because Tennant is very funny, most other cast members seem to fill the gaps between his witty comments and dark humour. I'm a big Chris Ecclestone fan but I prefer Tennants take on the character.
Ok well i have finally watched it, not bad was quite funny, and was interesting to see Spike gettin it on with a guy, considering i am used to seein him get it on with buffy. Overall not a bad episode
mentioning Catherine Tate in the first name last name thread reminded me. When I saw No Country the other night there was a all new Doctor Who trailer on the ads. Featuring everything from how the Doc find s Tate, to Billy Piper, Ageymang or whatever her name is, the Sonitarians and a few other monsters and stuff. looked rather spectacular and impressive. Can't wait for the new series now.....
I thought both the first episode of Dr Who and the Last episode of Torchwood were boith completely underwhelming.
I knew about the twist ending of DW because all the trailers for the series have given that away much like the return of the Daleks (Although we still don't know if Stavros will make an appearance).
Monsters that are created from body fat, but look cute...? Purlleeasse. I thought Tate was worse than I expected. Although when I listened to the commentary on BBC 3 last night she sounded completely normal, she should use her normal voice more often really. Apprantly she s there to add a more comic element for the younger viewers. That episode still gave my 6 year old nightmares though. humpfhh
I thought tonight's Roman episode was a step up on last weeks middling opener, solidly enjoyable with some cool moments, good effects...and again putting the case for the defence of Catherine Tate, I think she is better than Martha so far, and her relationship with the Doctor is more interesting.
But again I recognise that Tate, like Marmite, is a love or hate thing...I think she is funny.
I thought Tate's performance towards the end when she was pleading The Doctor to return and save the Roman family was surprisingly good but the rest of it was just her being her.
It was an OK episode like the idea that the Doctor was the cause of Pompeii. At least the Ood are back next week, that trailer looked a little more intresting.
Not the best of episodes but it was pretty decent though the monsters looked like transformers a little bit ;).David Tennant is always excellent but as usual Tate annoyed me like hell, she tries to be funny and always fails to be,though as MIB said, her performance in the last part of the show was pretty good. Its a pity she just acts like a moron most of the time though, she would be better at more serious acting then comedy because she just isnt funny.
It wasn't even funny the first week, if we have to go through that every week.... I am however looking forward to the Sontarians 2 parter. I assume we will see Rose turn up as well at some point in it too.
Quality episode tonight. Thw Sontarans are a decent enemy. Also, the best episodes seem to be the ones NOT written by Russell T 'I'm Gay Y'Know' Davies.
Even Tate was good. Bernard Cribbins is still a legend. For a moment when he said he knew the Doctor I though they were going to mention his run ins with the Daleks in the 60's.... Maybe that's later in the series.
I think Tate is slowly improving as an actress but her face still makes want to slap it.
I'm not sure I like the Sontarans being so short. They were more "stocky" than short before.
The story definitely benefited from being a two parter which I think all the stories should be as they tend to be too rushed in just one 45 minute episode.
The ratings have taken a]real dip the last couple of weeks...I think the early start time is taking its toll. If the show was on at a steady 7pm start, I think it would be picking up another half milion viewers. The BBC's action in treating a flagship show like this are baffling...RTD made it clear he want happy with this timeslot, and he was right.
I think Donna has been a success so far, with some funny lines, good emotional scenes...and she has won over most of the neutrals on the Digital Spy board.
dr who gets better and better - i know tate is not the best part but this episode with the sontarians is fab i do hope the brat whos inleague with them gets a suitable death.
BTW the linking threat was there again keep an eye out and you should spot it.
love the idea of a UNIT story a well MORE of that is needed like the old days of Petwee and Baker.
