According to DigiGuide, the Samuel L. Jackson produced samurai anime Afro Samurai will be hitting UK digital TV channel Bravo, starting at 23:30 on Friday 4th May 2007.
This violent 5 episode series, often compared to the cult classic Ninja Scroll, reportedly cost upwards of $5,000,000 to animate (produced by Studio GONZO) and along with Samuel L. Jackson, also features the voice talent of Hollywood's Ron "Hell Boy" Perlman and Kelly Hu. "Kill Bill"'s RZA composed the hip-hop tinged soundtrack. Wossy showed a clip of this on Japanorama a few weeks back. Should be good!
i see it myself, and yup its quite violent but as original as the concept of a black samurai ould sound original and the famous dub cast,it didnt completelyconvince me; but then for a mini-series,america co-produced is not that bad, after all...not much to do with samurais, but still ok.
how bothering i cant go back edit old posts tho: i dont always reread my posts straight after n i hate 2 sound retarded bcoz of it [dont say a damn thing]...
Ive been trying to locate whose doing the disribution for this as I wanna run a comp. ALso a guy I know has the exclusive rights to producing some Official Prints that have even been signed By Sam Jackson himself.
The film length version of Afro Samurai (running time 1hr 45mins) will air on the cable and digital TV channel Bravo this coming Saturday, 10th November at 10PM.
AnimeUKNews reports a sequel and live action movie is in the works:
Following news that Afro Samurai generated upwards of $13 million for US anime distributors Funimation, a follow-up movie called Afro Samurai: Resurrection is in the works and will premiere in the US during January of 2009, this time starring the voices of Lucy Liu and Mark Hamill in addition to Samuel L. Jackson.
Also, plans for a live action movie adaptation of Afro Samurai appear to be progressing, with Samuel L. Jackson suggesting that André Benjamin (of hip-hop band OutKast) would be perfect for the titular role of Afro.
