Mike Johnson is reporting that WWE has released developmental talents Ace Steele, former TNA star Cassidy Riley, Robert Anthony, Michael DiPaolo, Shawn McGrath and George Murdoch. DiPaolo is the former Roadkill of ECW fame. As we noted a few weeks back, DiPaolo had drawn a great deal of heat in Ohio Valley Wrestling and had shown up for shows and not used before missing a few shows.
Roadkill got released in case you didn't know and here's why...
The recent firing of Roadkill from developmental was disclipinary, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Someone reported him to the WWE office for selling WWE merchandise at spot shows at his gimmick table. After his release, WWE sent word that they don't want any talent under contract selling merchandise, even their own, at the shows.
WWE has come to terms on the release of SmackDown Superstar Dave Taylor as of today, April 28, 2008. We wish Dave the best in all his future endeavors.
Former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson's official fansite at www.t-wilson.org posted a note that Wilson actually asked for her WWE release in an attempt to stave off rumors surrounding yesterday's announcement that she had parted ways with World Wrestling Entertainment.
Wilson, who has opened a clothing line and store named Jaded in Texas, where she now resides, had written publicly that she had been advised by doctors not to return to the ring following several back issues.
World Wrestling Entertainment has come to terms on the release of Trevor Murdoch as of July 03, 2008. WWE wishes Trevor the best in all future endeavors.
There's nothing new to report on WWE's release of Trevor Murdoch yesterday. I have asked around and all I can tell you is he was drafted from Raw to Smackdown because the Monday creative team didn't have any ideas for him but Michael Hayes supposedly did. Everyone I spoke with since last night about it was mildly surprised he was let go so suddenly.
Let's see: Murdoch was a redneck character, Hayes had an idea for him....I wonder...
A lotm of people quite liked murdoch but i never really understood why. He could work certainly but he was never going to be anyone of note for the company. That being said, he was useful in tag matches and maybe keeping him in that environment would have made him more useful?
Part of what hindered Murdoch was that his original character was based on Dick Murdoch, thus only fans of a certain vintage understood were he was coming from.
A majority of today's fans are either too young to remember him or simply uneducated about pre-Hogan era wrestling.
As mentioned in another thread Ashley has been grqanted her release. Im sure you will miss her.
Trvor Murdoch I am sure will turn up on TNA sooner or later. While he has the makings of a decent mid carder I think his look may hinder him. He could also do with a manager/mouth piece too.
PWInsider.com has the full story on Ric Flair's departure from WWE:
THE RIC FLAIR STORY - COMPLETE DETAILS ON THE GREATEST'S DEPARTURE FROM WWE /by Mike Johnson @ 2008-08-05 10:16:52/
The Gillespie Agency, which represents WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair for personal appearances, began contacting promoters who had been previously turned down for Flair appearances with the following via email over the weekend:
'Ric Flair is no longer under contract with WWE. It was a friendly parting which will allow Ric to pursue things that were rejected by WWE in the past. And it will mean a more streamlined process than ever before. Just you guys and me and Ric. Let's pull something together and make some money!'
In recent months, Flair had been forced to give up a series of 20-30 appearances that would have taken place on National Wrestling Alliance events including an NWA Hall of Fame induction, at WWE's request. He was also forced to turn down additional appearances, including a signing appearance for Ring of Honor in New York City. There was also a case recently WWE raised a red flag over Flair appearing at a convention that was also advertising TNA talents. When you add up the number of missed opportunities and compare it to Flair's rumored asking price of $10,000 per appearance, it's a lot of coin, so due to the potential earnings that were being left on the table (and honestly, some of that might not be able to be recovered), Flair opted to ask for a release so he could work without having WWE restrictions put upon his outside endeavors.
While the parting may seem shocking on the surface, especially given the huge sendoff World Wrestling Entertainment gave Flair during Wrestlemania weekend, it's not without historic precedent. WWE does have history of letting Flair out of his contract to work on other endeavors. In 1991, Vince McMahon verbally promised to release Flair from his contractual obligations if he was ever moved out of a main event position. When that move was made in 1993, Flair received an offer from WCW and was released from his WWF deal per the verbal agreement.
The Gillespie Agency, on behalf of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, issued the following statement to PWInsider.com:
'WWE and I parted on the best of terms. This gives me the chance to pursue new opportunities...corporate speaking engagements, product sponsorships, autograph shows for my loyal fans (who made me what I am today) and film and television roles. My agent and I are very excited about what the future holds!'
Flair has already received upwards of 250 offers since the announcement on Sunday and there is word of a bidding war going on for a Flair shoot interview as well. According to sources I've spoken to, Flair will no longer be contractually prevented from entering inside a wrestling ring during appearances going forward, as WWE had previous prohibited. This could technically open the door for Flair working as a manager/referee, doing training seminars, or (and while I will say right now this is highly unlikely, one never knows) wrestling down the line.
Late Sunday evening, WWE acknowledged Flair's departure on their website, posting the following:
'WWE and Hall of Famer Ric Flair have mutually agreed to contractually part ways. After an extraordinary career Ric has chosen to pursue opportunities outside of WWE.'
The announcement is already off the website's main page. It will be interesting to see if they start marking down Flair merchandise, as is policy when a talent leaves the company, given Flair's popularity and the recent release of the Ric Flair Definitive Collection DVD. As irony has it, the September theme for WWE 24/7 is Ric Flair and they have several episodes of the Legends of Wrestling 24/7 Roundtable series in the can with Flair for the future.
Despite WWE's curt announcement of Flair's departure, My gut feeling is that if WWE needed Flair to appear on their behalf down the line, chances are it would happen, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
For those who are wondering whether TNA will make a play for Flair, obviously everyone would love for him to come on board, but there's no word on whether the conditions of the release would prevent him from appearing on national television for another wrestling company.
Meh,Chris harris was nothing special. Will probably go back to TNA.Theres a rumour about flair that hes filing for divorce yet again....It seems no matter what flair does, the only thing he has ever been good at is wrestling, cant stay married and is reported to have some financial problems, espicially with his money buisness going up the creek.
Chris Harris was a good tag team wrestler in TNA when he was a part of AMW but as a singles wrestler he didn't work so well. And in ECW he had let himself go shape wise and nothing seemed to click in the ring two having horrible matches.
Don't be too surprised if Mick Foley's name is next in this thread after this quote from this online interview posted today:
"I can't say much until after my contract expires, which is September 1st. But at this point, there is a good chance, through mutual agreement, that I will not be renewing the contract. Creatively, the announcing job wasn't working out too well."
Apparently Mick couldn't handle having Vince shouting in his earhole during the shows. Can't say I blame him.
Why doesnt vince get back into the broadcast booth? Man i miss the days of "What a Maaanoovaa","one, two,he got him....no he didnt!" and "Big baaack body drop",classic mcmanorisms! If he thinks he can do better then i shouldnt see why not.
Just to edit Shannon Moore has been released and there may be quite a few superstars on there way today from what iv read.
PWinsider.com is reporting that WWE has released the following wrestlers from the company's over populated developmental roster:
Charles Evans Brad Attitude Matt O'Neal
How can you release a guy with the name Brad Attitude? Seriously, come on, thats just licence to print money. I can see it now John Cena Vs. Brad Attitude for the WWE title. Except I can't because Brad Attitude has been released....
Well another bunch of releases have been announced from reports iv read and they include...
Colin Delaney (never had a chance) The Highlanders (inetivable) Cherry (nooo....i loved her..) Stevie Richards (big fan but never used properly)
Theres a few others but these are the big ones i think from the release.Could be more coming.Dont know why the E actually bothers having a midcard anymore really.
Bit surprised at Cherry as she was starting to get over a little bit. Colin Delaney was another one as they did so much with his angle of getting a contract but they loused it up with the heel turn.
Highlanders was inevitable as they dropped the ball big time after they first arrived.
Aside from the RTC, Stevie Richards was always barely treading water in the WWE so this is also somewhat inevitable.
