WWE Wrestlers Suspended Thread

From Meltzer:

WWE today officially suspended 10 of its performers based on information received from investigators in the Albany, NY district attorneys office.

None of the names have been released but it will likely be obvious over the next week who at least some of them are.

The suspensions would likely be based on proof that performers were using Signature Pharmacy or another Internet prescription type firm after the implemenation of the Wellness policy.

The company also has informed all performers that beginning 11/1, the company will publicly release the names of anyone who is suspended under drug policy violations.

The guessing game starts here....  CM Punk anyone?smile

10 WWE Wrestlers Suspended
Permalink Closed

We'll soon know at the weekend because they are taping RAW and SD early due to their tour of South Africa next week.

I doubt if it will be any top names (well, those left anyway) because they'd never survive without them.

However, I think Vince should suspend himself too! wink.gif

Well if I was taking guesses I would say, Chris Masters, Guece and Domino (Hence why they dropped the belts), Big Daddy V? John Cena would be good. Khali possibly, Jeff Hardy and Cryme Time.

- The WWE was rocked again today, after several of wrestling's top names emerged in the Albany district attorney's probe into a widespread Internet doping scandal.

The wrestling congomerate based in Stamford announced that it will suspend 10 of its biggest stars for violation of its wellness policy.

Top wrestlers Randy Orton, Charles Haas, Jr., Adam "Edge" Copeland, Robert "Booker T" Huffman, Shane Helms, Mike Bucci, Anthony Carelli, John "Johnny Nitro" Hennigan, Darren "William Regal" Matthews, Ken "Mr. Kennedy" Anderson and Chavo Guerrero were all identified as clients of Signature Pharmacy in Orlando, the site raided by Albany County and Florida law enforcement agencies in February for distributing steroids and other prescription drugs to clients who had not been examined by doctors. The investigation is part of a probe into illegal Internet drug distribution by Albany D.A. David Soares.

Some more news from the New York Daily Post. ANybody think this has anything to do with the upcoming COngress hearings?

From the New York Daily News:

The WWE was rocked again today, after several of wrestling's top names emerged in the Albany district attorney's probe into a widespread Internet doping scandal.

The wrestling conglomerate based in Stamford announced that it will suspend 10 of its biggest stars for violation of its wellness policy.

In a list obtained exclusively by the Daily News, top wrestlers Randy Orton, Charles Haas, Jr., Adam "Edge" Copeland, Robert "Booker T" Huffman, Shane Helms, Mike Bucci, Anthony Carelli, John "Johnny Nitro" Hennigan, Darren "William Regal" Matthews, Ken "Mr. Kennedy" Anderson, Eddie "Umaga" Fatu, Shoichi Funaki and Chavo Guerrero were all identified as clients of Signature Pharmacy in Orlando, the site raided by Albany County and Florida law enforcement agencies in February for distributing steroids and other prescription drugs to clients who had not been examined by doctors. The investigation is part of a probe into illegal Internet drug distribution by Albany D.A. David Soares.

ESPN has added the following names:

Dave Bautista (Batista)
Shoichi Funaki
Chris Mordetzky aka Chris Masters

I wonder if this explains the recent booking decisions like Orton and DAVE not winning the belts?

Meltzer has a break down of who had what:

Sports Illustrated has received information on the drugs and dates received by various WWE wrestlers, all of whom fall after the institution of the Wellness policy.

Based on these dates, the entire policy's credibility is shot in the sense there were detectable drugs purchased by talent through Internet doctors, a practice banned by the company's Wellness policy.

In addition, Ken Anderson (Mr. Kennedy) comes across like a complete fool because his last package was sent in February, one full year after he claimed to have gotten clean due to the Policy. Between October 2006 and February 2007, Anderson received Anastrozole (which is not a steroid, but used to counter affects of steroids such as development of female breast tissue), Somatropin (a Growth Hormone) and testosterone (an anabolic steroid).

Others listed in the article were:

Chris Benoit receiving Nandrolone and Anastrozole in February 2006.

Eddy Guerrero receiving Nandrolone, Testosterone and Anastrozole two weeks before his death.

Chavo Guerrero receiving many drugs, including Somatropin, Nandrolone and Anastrozole as late as May 2006.

Shane Helms receiveing testosterone, Genotropin (Growth Hormone) and Nandralone as late as February 2007.

Randy Orton receiving Somatropin, Nandrolone and Stanazolol as late as February 2007.

John Hennigan aka John Morrison getting Somatropin, Anastrozole, Testosterone, Stanazolol and HCG as late as February 2007.

Shoichi Funaki receiving Somatropin in March 2006.

Brian Adams received Nandrolone, Testosterone and Somatropin in December.

Charlie Haas received Anstrozole, Somatropin, Stanazolol, Nandrolone and HCG as late as January

Edward Fatu (Umaga) received Somatropin as late as December.

Darren Matthews (William Regal) recieved Stanozolol, Somatropin, Genotropin and Anastrozole as late as November.

Adam Copeland received Somatropin, Genotropin and Stanazolol as late as February. This must have included new evidence because government evidence on Copeland received by the Observer in May listed Copeland as not having received anything doctors were under investigation for in several years.

Sylvan Grenier received Somatropin, Nandrolone, Genotropin and Stanazolol as late as July 2006. Grenier has was fired by the company two weeks ago for unrelated reasons.

The company by the wording of its policy would be forced to suspend these wrestlers, aside from Benoit and Guerrero, because this would indicate flagrant violations of the policy after implementation.

The company suspended ten wrestlers, the same number as this list, two of whom, Helms and Copeland, are out indefinitely due to injuries.

Orton, Morrison, Matthews and Fatu were all key characters on television. Given the nature of the television as late as Tuesday, WWE could not have made the decision to suspend until Wednesday at the earliest, and most likely the decision was made this morning.

So surely we are looking for new Intercontenital, ECW champions then and a number 1 guy for Cena.

It's at times like these when you have to say fto yourself that the WWE are masters of their own downfall for this constant pressure to find 'Big Men'. So they will be getting Samoa Joe in then very soon one would assume, CM Punk will get the ECW belt now surely HHH moves upto Number 1 contender....

Sky Sports News was reporting this before, didn't name any names though.

WrestlingObserver.com wrote:
In an article by T.J. Quinn of the New York Daily News, the newspaper received a list of wrestlers who were clients of Signature Pharmacy. The names listed were:

Randy Orton
Charlie Haas
Adam Copeland aka Edge
Robert Huffman aka King Booker
Shane Helms aka Gregory Helms
Mike Bucci aka Simon Dean
Anthony Carelli aka Santino Marella
John Hennigan aka John Morrison
Darren Matthews aka William Regal
Ken Anderson aka Mr. Kennedy
Chavo Guerrero

Based on records obtained through sources by the Observer months back, Copeland's last reported prescription came several years ago, when he was recuperating from neck surgery. So many of these incidents here may have predated the Wellness policy implemented in February 2006. It is known Orton and Helms' had transactions that predated the policy, and that the timing of both Copeland and Helms' transactions at the time came during periods of injury rehabilitation. So it may not yet be the time to make Ken Anderson look like a fool, depending on the date, because he has admitted use prior to February of 2006.
It is by no means confired that these men are among the ten who were suspended earlier today.

WWE was aware of many of the names months ago from a Sports Illustrated investigation and chose not to suspend the wrestlers at the time because the time frame predated the Wellness policy.

If the prescriptions did predate the policy, suspensions are questionable, but perhaps due to government pressure, WWE feels it has no choice. If the prescriptions were dated after February of 2006, the company had little choice in the matter.

Three other names, now deceased, Chris Benoit, Brian Adams and Eddy Guerrero were also on the list. There are believed to be several more former WWE wrestlers on the list.

WWE Solicitor speaks...

I didn't see it, but I was told that WWE lawyer Jerry McDevitt was on Greta's show last night on Fox News. McDevitt said that Vince McMahon informed the ten wrestlers of their suspensions. McDevitt didn't name any names, but said nine of the ten suspended wrestlers received 30 day suspensions (first violation), and one wrestler was suspended for 60 days (second violation). All suspended wrestlers will not be paid during their suspension period.

It looks like DAVE could be on the next list of suspensions. However, a token sacrifice has been made:

According to numerous sources, WWE talent executive Mike "Simon Dean" Bucci was released today by WWE from his post in talent relations. Bucci was largely the manager for the developmental territories, leaving his career as an active wrestler to take the management position. The word among the wrestlers is that Bucci was called in for a meeting today by WWE in the wake of his name being mentioned by the The New York Daily News yesterday as being someone on the list of workers named in the Signature Pharmacy growth enhancing drug scandal.

As it was explained to me, Bucci was probably something of a sacrificial lamb, let go because he was considered expendable and someone that WWE could release to "show" that they were serious about the current problem. The story making the rounds is that since he was in management and wrestlers fell under his leadership, the company felt that they had no choice but to let him go because "they couldn't have him setting an example like that". The irony here is that to the best of my knowledge, Bucci's dealings with Signature took place when he was still an active wrestler, not a manager. So, had he never moved to the other side of the curtain, he probably would have only been suspended for a month. Instead, he was let go.

It's all well and good to do this now but like in 1992 after the Zahorian scandal, teh roid boys will be back en masse within a year...

PWInsider.com:

The word going around among the Raw roster right now is that the wrestlers expect some more talent to be fired today. Based on the suspended list, I'd also expect a title change tonight at the tapings. There is a rumor (and I stress RUMOR) that one top Raw talent may have given notice as well, but until we can confirm that as 100% correct, I'm going to withhold the name. It's going to be interesting to see where the company goes with their storylines.

Ooh, I wonder who that could be...

And there's more:

World Wrestling Entertainment's Stephanie McMahon and John Laurinaitis held a meeting with the Smackdown and ECW talent last night in Cincinnati, Ohio prior to yesterday's television tapings to discuss new changes to the WWE Wellness Policy:

*The company will begin to test for marijuana shortly. A positive will not result in a suspension but all positives will be met with a fine of, at least, $1000 per offense.

*The company will also begin testing for anti-estrogen drugs, which can be taken to offset some of the effects of steroid and HGH use. A positive for any anti-estrogen agents will result in Wellness suspensions.

*The company also announced that any new potential hires will have to undergo and pass the WWE Wellness test before they are signed to the company.

Good move but oh so friggin' late...

PWInsider.com:

World Wrestling Entertainment released Raw tag team Cryme Time, Shad Gaspard and JTG, this afternoon.

I haven't heard particulars yet but do know there was an incident this weekend involving Cryme Time and WWE Tag Team champions Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch that took place on the Raw house show in Terra Haute, Indiana yesterday. The finish of their bout saw an odd countout finish although JTG had made it back to the ring, followed by Cryme Time attacking the referee of the bout and removing his belt for "auction" to the audience.

WWE officials made the decision to release the pair at the Raw tapings this afternoon. There was a lot of heat on the team today at TV. Given the timing of the release, I'd say this is likely not a Wellness Policy issue but something stemming from the Indiana incident.

Cryme Time were brought up to the Raw roster in September 2006 after spending time working together in Ohio Valley Wrestling.

It's bad enough that they're suspending guys because of the drugs issue but releasing others in the middle of a big push is just weird.

And as for Eugene:

Nick "Eugene" Dinsmore was sitting in a meeting regarding changes in the WWE Wellness Policy. Following the meeting, he was informed he was released from the company and led out of the building. Dinsmore was slated to take a more active role in Ohio Valley Wrestling working with some of the greener talent, so the release was said to have been a complete shock to him.

Ouch!

The rate their going, they are going to have condensed the roster so much they will be left with CM Punk, HHH and Cena.

Seriously though they have been 'trimming' for ages. There was no way they could keep all these wrestlers on board. It was a case of we'll keep them so no one else can have them.

Dinsmore will turn up on TNA or ROH beofre too soon.

Hopefully this 'Big name' will be revealed soon enough...

I think Dinsmore will be better off on the Indie circuit because of the Eugene character.

King Booker was absent from RAW last night so draw your own conclusions...

The Superstars who got suspended in connection with the Signature Pharmacy case - minus King Booker - are expected to be back to work on RAW tomorrow and Smackdown!/ECW on Tuesday as the 30 day suspension is over. Mr Kennedy, Charlie Haas, William Regal and Umaga return to RAW while Chavo Guerrero and Funaki go back to Smackdown! and John Morrison to ECW. The injured Edge and Gregory Helms were also suspended but they are still not cleared to compete.

And there's more:

Shawn "Khosrov" Daivari was officially granted his release today by World Wrestling Entertainment. From what I understand, Daivari asked for a release several weeks ago and the company granted it, but they hadn't actually completed the paperwork until this week.

Daivari signed with the company in August 2004 as he fit the company's vision of creating a Middle Eastern duo of heels, particularly since Daivari spoke fluent Farsi.

Daivari debuted on Raw in October 2004 as the mouthpiece and partner to Muhammad Hassan. When Hassan departed the company due a number of factors, including pressure from UPN over racier aspects of the angle and Hassan's relunctance to continue in the business, Daivari was moved into an undercard singles role after a short time back in developmental. Daivari also worked as the original manager for The Great Khali and more recently he was working a lower level role on Raw, including a Flag Match against Hacksaw Duggan several weeks back.

2 more wrestlers suspended...

Chris Masters (Again) and Harry Smith, which means his push must now be in serious doubt. You think he would have learned from his fathers example aboiut steriod use...

STAMFORD, Conn. - World Wrestling Entertainment said Friday it has suspended two wrestlers for violating its drug policy.

The company identified the performers as Chris Mordetsky and Harry Smith. It's the second suspension for Mordetsky, who wrestles under the name Chris Masters. He's been suspended for 60 days. Smith, who wrestles as D.H. Smith, was flagged with his first violation and will be sidelined 30 days, said WWE spokesman Gary Davis.

Under the WWE substance abuse and drug testing policy begun last year, which requires tests for steroids and other drugs, a wrestler faces a 30-day suspension without pay for a first violation, a 60-day suspension for a second violation and firing for a third violation. Performers are tested at least four times per year.

The Stamford-based company would not identify the drugs for which either man tested positive. The WWE suspended 10 wrestlers in August for drug violations but did not identify them. As part of its new policy that began Thursday, the company now identifies the performers. Davis would not comment on whether Mordetsky one of the 10 suspended this summer.

"WWE is very serious about eradicating the use of steroids and the abuse of prescription drugs," Davis said. "And we hope by making the names of our performers public it that will be a further deterrent to the other performers."

The WWE said the Augusts suspensions were based on independent information from the Albany County New York District Attorney's Office, which has been investigating illegal sales of steroids and growth hormones.

PWInsider.com:

Jeff Hardy knew that he was being suspended before Raw. He had a meeting with Vince McMahon before the show about the suspension and was reportedly not very happy once it ended. *Multiple sources have told us that the failure was *not* for a body enhancing substance. You know what that means.

It's possible he knew before TV because he actually had his fiance` with him at the show. Since it's a 60 day violation (he also failed a Wellness Test last summer when some "sources" believed a post he did on his website where he said he was taking time off to rehab injuries), WWE could have him wrestle for free at WrestleMania if they chose to do so. Or, if they feel he needs to go to rehab, they can suspend him indefinitely until, as they state in their Wellness Policy, "the individual has successfully completed the drug rehabilitation program."

Jeff has been pulled from WrestleMania, which supports reports we heard from WWE sources who told us the feeling they got from Jeff at Raw is that he doesn't think he has a problem and would rather leave the company than go to rehab.

If Jeff failed a second test (after being fired from WWE in 2003 for the same reasons) then he has a problem. And why don't they get his fiance` to speak to him or is she a dope like him?

Or on Dope like him....? Maybe Matt should be the one to talk some sense into him. If he quits he'll end up back with TNA anyway. It stupefies me how when your being majorly pushed by the company why you would risk throwing it all away like that. RVD as well.... Nuts, absolutely nuts..

From what I understand, Jeff Hardy is now in rehab. The word we are getting is that Hardy was denying he had a problem and was rejecting the idea of going to rehab. Apparently Hardy has been having a drinking problem.

It sucks to be Jeff Hardy right now:

wo.com:

Just days after being suspended for 60 days, Jeff Hardy got more bad news when his home in Cameron, NC, burned to the ground last night. Hardy and his girlfriend weren't home when it happened, but virtually everything Hardy owned was destroyed and he lost his pet dog. No other details are available at this time.

No cause of the fire has been determined.

Cue jokes about Jeff being so wasted he didn't put his last joint out properly...

I feel sorry for Jeff, he's so talanted and Addicion is a hard thing to get over. I just hope he hasn't completely blown his big chance, He still has a huge fan base even if the IWC tend to ridicule him.

I'd say his big singles push was a long time coming, I always though he was a better wrestler and he had a better look than both Edge and Christian. I hope both he and Matt both get the spots their talant desurves. I mean if certain other stars of WWE can get on top dispite stupid drug related mistakes time and time again then why can't Jeff?

I do agree with Sympth, jeff has the look, charisma and talent to be one of the Es top stars but time after time he makes a mistake, surely he has become unreliable now so its impossible to push him this far again. As for his house burning down, thats very sad and espicially the loss of his dog..:(..Lets hope Jeff can get through his problems, everyone is calling him an idiot but as said, addiction is not easily beaten no matter who you are.He needs support, even if he is moronic what he did.

To play Devil's Advocate, you have to understand that if you're going to get the kind of push Jeff got then you need to reciprocate and be on the ball at all times. If he's got a problem that will compromise that then of course the WWE will have to take action.

It's not like he's been fired but just suspended for two months. However, this isn't the first time and the previous time he was fired because he refused to admit he had a problem and go to rehab. Maybe this is the wake up call he needs.

And you can't blame WWE for their actions as they are now under close scrutiny since the Benoit incident and lest we forget, Jeff already received a 30 day suspension last year. He's lucky this is not Japan because a wrestler called Arashi was fired by All Japan after he was caught with some weed (ironically at the same time RVD and Sabu were busted but Arashi had a mere fraction of their stash) and received a three month suspended sentence!

If Jeff can clean himself up and commit himself once again to his wrestling career then he should be welcomed back; if he can't he's on his second strike and he's only really got himself to blame - which is a tremendous shame for all concerned.

His punishment is nothing compared to some sports, if you look at Adrian Mutu when he was at Chelsea. One failed test (cocaine if I remember right) and he was fired, end of, no return. Ok he now ply's his trade elsewhere but the fact remains he was fired by his employers at the time. The WWE are rightly worried about sending out the wrong impression to their younger audience and they get a lot of stick for things like this.

So...

When is the music industry going to do the same?! At least the WWE is seen to frown on drug use, be it recreational or to cheat. The music industry does (and always has) failed to have so some self disciplin and stop performers either singing about or quite openly doing drugs. From The Beatles to Eminem via Motely Crue, these people, who have more affect on young people than every WWE Superstar combined, will carry on getting high on a daily basis. While as soon as a sportsman "powders his nose" or smokes anything other than tobacco everyone calls for them to have the proverbial book thrown at them.

I dont condone drug use of any kind (yes I drink and smoke, shhhh!), but I feel that treatment of people who do partake in it should be universal, not dependant on which sector of the public eye they're in.

Jason Powell is reporting that Smackdown head writer Michael Hayes has been suspended by WWE for 60-days for using a derogatory term while speaking with Mark Henry. According to the source, Henry took offense and reported it to WWE officials.

I think MiB was joking. It was more like he called Henry a 'Wrestler' and he complained and the WWE sited him for not using the term 'Sports Entertainer'

Of course, I would argue that Mark Henry is neither a Wrestler nor a Sports Entertainer! wink

From the file marked "When will he ever learn?":

WWE announced this morning that William Regal has been suspended for 60 for his second failure of the company's Wellness Policy. We will have more on this story later today.

Sigh...

This is just craziness! First Jeff Hardy blows his biggest singles push ever, now Regal buggers up his biggest push in years and takes the best storyline around at the moment with him (I thought Regal/Kennedy had a great deal of potential). Are these guys just stupid? Regal is not even a regular wrestler, why would he risk it all? Even DH Smith, who was in the middle of a push last year screwed things up with a violation, and you'd have thought HE would have known better! Idiots!
