Well here we are I know I said I would wait until tomorrow, but I had a think about it and thought we better get the ball rolling as Im sure what Im about to put in here will have devided opinion so here goes
We have two choices:
i) Use the Poll and have upto 20 nominees and you vote over the month. OR ii) After a quick discussion (between the mods) we put forward a top 8 and you have a 4 week knockout tournement
I think ii) is the better option just for the timeframe, and i liked the layout of it so far, also if you just used the poll then everyone would vote for their choice (1 vote each in a poll isnt it) so that would last a cpl days not a month.
A knockout tournament is better (except when people vote incorrectly... ) but how about a combination of both options?
Everyone submits two titles and we have a poll for each (i.e Poll no 1 is all of our collective first choices and the second poll our second choices) with the stip that we can't vote for our own choice then the top 4 from each poll becomes our top 8 for the knockout rounds.
thats alot of prethought and a little time consuming, great idea but then u looking at a cpl weeks ontop for people to get their votes in on the intial poll
Alien, Jaws, The Shining, Psycho, Dark Water, Ringu, The Exorcist & Halloween. There was some discussion about these but these are the 8. The first round matches are as follows:
Halloween Vs. The Shining
Alien Vs. Ringu
Dark Water Vs. Psycho
Jaws Vs. The Exorcist You have until Saturday Night at 10 pm to cast your round 1 votes.
Dark Water Vs. Psycho (the japanese version..but even if not,i hate Psycho!)
Jaws Vs. The Exorcist
I know i shouldnt complain but where is Hellraiser, perhaps THE greatest horror movie of all time yet Jaws makes it in? or Ju-on, hellevator (ok..that one is just me ^^) ect ect..Oh well.
Do you know what after posting this I thought oops Hellraiser... Anyway we only had 8 places so we had to include the genres best and most original.
Dark Water & Ringu are the J-Horrors as selected by MiB. Threst of the list if you feel anything was omited and I have to add on this list:
Ju On: The Grudge The Thing (Kurt Russell Version) Nightmare on Elm St. Evil Dead
these were all under consideration and came close but we had to goto 8.
Anyway in the last month we are going to have a Battle Royale Qualifier for all of the contenders that just missed out, so hopefully they'll get a chance there.
I thought hard about it and while Ju-On is probably more well know but it polarises fan opinion and suffers from being diluted by the near shot for shot US remake. DW has a stronger case as it's far superior to the US version like Ringu was to The Ring.
I think i understand your point Mib ^^ but im amazed Jaws is in this category, is it really a horror film? I actually have never seen it so maybe im wrong.I am sad that Alien and and Ringu was paired together though..terrible! And then the omission of Hellraiser, no excuses guys! Im kidding, that Battle Royale thing Dark M mentioned sounds good :).
This is a conversation that has come up more than once. Yes Jaws is listed as a horror. Think about it, it's about a near perfect killing machine that could be considered a monster. There's several deaths, the head in the botom of the boat is one of the true movie shock make youe scream/jump moments ever.... I'd say it was a horror.
I vote for Dark Water and Psycho. Alien misses out as its sequel was perhaps even better. Dark Water is such a perfect film, it has these bone chilling moments but is also very touching and moving.
Of films that never made the cut, check out the original black and white version of The Haunting.
Got to go with Jaws for me. The tension was better built up and was consistent whereas Alien was pretty much remembered just for the chest bursting sequence.
