This is the next one from the UK, Newcastle to be exact.  There's going to be no Bisping on it either, so it should be intresting to see how well this one does.  The first match to be rumored/announced is:

Graciemag.com has confirmed Gabriel NapaoGonzaga vs. Fabricio Werdum UFC 80, in Newcastle, England in January.

That should be a cracking matchsmile

Id say this is going to be the main event.  Makes me want to head up to Newcastle for it too...

Former champion B.J. Penn (11-4-1 MMA, 7-3-1 UFC) and The Ultimate Fighter 2 winner Joe Stevenson (28-7 MMA, 5-1 UFC) will fight for the interim UFC lightweight championship at UFC 80 in January. Todays news comes from Kevin Iole at Yahoo! Sports.

Additionally, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed that at least one of the fighters was notified of the bout earlier this week. According to Ioles report, UFC President Dana White opted to book the fight which will be the nights main event in Newcastle, England after being fed up with the California State Athletic Commissions handling of Sean Sherks appeal. Sherk, the UFCs current lightweight champion, tested positive for elevated testosterone levels and an anabolic agent after a successful title defense over Hermes Franca in July. He was subsequently suspended one year and fined $2,500. After securing the services of accomplished doping lawyer Howard Jacobs, Sherk was granted an extension for his appeal hearing, which took place earlier this week on Oct. 31. However, key paperwork submitted by Jacobs was not distributed to commission members prior to the hearing, and the commission opted to delay the hearing an additional two weeks. White had previously stated he would strip Sherk of the title if his appeal is upheld, but according to Iole, White will now let Sherk keep the title regardless of the commissions decision.

That means Sherk will retain the title but depending on the commissions decision, he could return anytime from January (if his suspension is reduced to six months) to July (if the original 12-month suspension is upheld).

With the interim championionship, though, the UFC can assure the division remains active and marketable. It also sets up a potential mega champion vs. champion fight between Sherk and the interim champion sometime in 2008.

In addition to Penn vs. Stevenson, UFC 80 will feature a co-main event of Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Fabricio Werdum. As for an event date, MMAjunkie.com today confirmed that UFC 80 will take place Jan. 19. (Previously, the event was rumored to take place either Jan. 12 or Jan. 19.) Penn, a former UFC welterweight champ, recently appeared as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 5 and defeated rival Jens Pulver in the shows live finale.

Penn was originally scheduled to face Sherk in a November title fight prior to the drug suspension. Stevenson, who won the welterweight division of The Ultimate Fighter 2, ultimately dropped to 155 pounds and has posted a 5-1 record (including four straight victories) in the UFC since his time on the show. He last defeated Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 74 but suffered a broken nose in the unanimous-decision victory. However, he quickly returned to training full-time training and has been cleared to fight.

Kendall Grove Vs. Jorge Rivera has now been added to the event.

The Ultimate Fighter 3 middleweight winner Kendall Grove (8-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will look to rebound from a recent loss when he takes on veteran fighter Jorge Rivera (14-6 MMA, 3-4 UFC) at UFC 80.

The report comes from the Xtreme Couture MMA blog.

UFC 80 takes place at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England. As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) announced yesterday, the event is set for Jan. 19.

Grove, who made remarkable strides while training under Tito Ortiz on the third season of the UFC Spike TVs reality series, won a close unanimous-decision over Ed Herman in the shows finale. In subsequent fights, the 24-year-old Hawaiian posted submission wins over Chris Price and Alan Belcher before suffering a first-round TKO to Patrick Cote at YFC 74 in August.

Rivera, a six-year MMA veteran, appeared on the fourth season of The Ultimate Fighter. The 35-year-old lost a unanimous decision to Cote in the seasons eighth episode. However, the Team Elite fighter has wins over notables Travis Lutter, David Loiseau, Dennis Hallman and Edwin Dewees throughout his career.

Yesterday, Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports broke the news that B.J. Penn and Joe Stevenson will headline UFC 80 as they fight for the interim lightweight title. He also reported that current champ, Sean Sherk, will not have his title stripped if his suspension from a failed drug test is upheld. For more information about the series of events, check out our UFC 80: Penn vs. Stevenson story from yesterday, or head over to Mr. Sunshines blog for his interview with Iole.

Well this one is next up now, should be an intresting card. I actually think that Gonzaga Werdum is going to be the 'hidden gem' on this one, that could be explosive.
