Two ninja clans, the Iga and the Kouga, have been fueding for decades but truce was decreed by Hatorri Hanzo. The two elderly leaders betrothed their grandchildren to each other in hope that their union will bring eternal peace between the warring clans, although il feelings remained.. However, the Shogun is planning to step down, yet he cannot decide which of his two grandsons should be his successor. So Hanzo conscripted the two clans to wage a war of Ninja Arts against each other, which each clan representing a grandson, with the winning clan deciding the new Shogun. When the battle begins the elderly can leaders die leaving young lovers Oboro and Gennosuke to lead their clans into war against each other.

Basilisk is pretty much a Ninja version of Romeo & Juliet but with added twists of the young lovers being the heads of the respective warring groups. If you like blood, gore, busty girls, fantasy, romance and action this great series has it all.

My DVD review of Volume 4 should be up soon.

its an excellent anime, but sometimes you really feel like soemthing missing because they skip parts that instead are given full details of in the manga.
nonetheless its great fun,the story has a lot of drama to it and that blood and fights enough to make everyone happy.at least,i found it great.

My DVD review of the film version Shinobi should be up soon. It's a good live action adaptation but it tries to cram the whole story into 98 minutes which is a severe handicap to such a sprawling story.

But the Anime is superb. I'm still waiting to get the full set before I start reading the Manga.
