CPC Movies Awards 2007
Permalink Closed

Well, with the year nearly done, I am preparing the end of year awards (Yes I know I STILL haven't sorted out the Hall of Fame yet).  But you might like to start thinking about who you would like to see as nominees in the various categories below.  Place your ideas and reasons and you never know they may end up on the final ballot.

Best Film

Best Director

Best Actor

Best Actress

Breakout Star of 2007 (Doesn't necessarily have to be someone new just someone who has had a very good year whose not a established star.)

CPC Movies Outstanding Achievement Award 2007

I should probably point out the films need to have graced a cinema screen this year although DVD awards is maybe a consideration....

It was released on June 15th but this country being racist, only gave it a limited release which prompted my award winning letter to NEO magazine!.

Shia Leoboeuf (whatever his name is) Is a definite contender. In fact I think it's a two way tussle with him and Hairspray's Nikki Blonsky.

Shia is a bloke for starters and so I'd say Nikki wins because she'd be the only girl.

I would still vote for Shia...what do you mean he's a bloke? I'm not hip on UK speak...explain what that means.

That's what I figured, but I thought that it could have meant something else in that context. I guess I was just reading too much into it. Reread the post and tell me if that could also mean something else.

I think the highlighted line there suitably qualifies the defintion of bloke without fear of misinterpretation. wink.gif

Yeah, but I just read it fast and didn't really think until I went back and read it. Sorry, but words like that are not used in my daily life. I think that I deserve a pass here...

The only nominee I can vote for is Gong Li as she is the only one I have seen and I still say Zhang Yimou deserves the outstanding achievement award.

I really can't vote in these awards as I've only seen one of the films mentioned! Just a little beef; how can Katherine Heigl be considered a 'Breakout Star'? She has been around for ages! I used to watch her in Roswell a few years ago, and she's been in loads of notable films too (My Father The Hero, Bride Of Chucky, Valentine). I understand a breakout star to be someone new to the film industry that has made a big impact.

Some people can be around for a while before they have that one good year when they really get noticed.

It's like wrestling. Guys can be on the undercard for years before they get that big main event push. Like Edge: his breakout year was 2006 when he became a bona fide main eventer which he wasn't before.

Does that make sense?

Exactly what MiB just said. I think I mentioned before it's not just someone's 'first' year in movies. It's someone who isn't an A lister per se, but has made a big impact in the year. Shia Labeouf has been around since 1994 in movies and he's been in things like Charlie's Angels, I Robot, Holes, Constantine and Bobby. But this year has been a breakout year for him with big hits such as Transformers, Surf's Up & Disturbia and next year Indy 4. Do understand where we are coming from?

Just realised I missed two contenders for the Breakout Star...

Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad)
Zoe Bell (Death Proof)
And I'm changing Ms. Heigl for Megan Fox

So you may want to vote again
