Anime - or more specifically the works of Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli - get some air time on BBC and Ch4 over Christmas this year.
BBC2 will be showing Howl's Moving Castle while Ch4 has Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Winds, Castle Of Cagliostro and Porco Rosso listed on its schedules.
Mononoke is a great film. Nausicaa is worth checking out too (although it does drag a bit by the end). Both films are about protecting the environment but it different ways.
Iv seen all of them several times and they are some of the best animations of all time, Mononoke is an awesom movie, while i agree with Mib abvout Nausicaa, though its still an excellent film. The only one im not keen on is Porco Rosso which is a pretty dull movie i think, but then it is about aviation which i have no clue about.I wish the likes of Laputa, Totoro and Kikis Delivary service would be on over christmas because these are the best films from Ghibilis collection.
Here is the TV schedule for the Miyazaki films shown over Christmas:
* My Neighbour Totoro - Film4 - 14.55 on 16th December * My Neighbour Totoro - Film4 - 16:45 on 21st December * Kiki's Delivery Service - Film4 - 15:10 on 26th December * Porco Rosso - Channel 4 - 06:05 on 26th December * Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind - Channel 4 - 06:35 on 27th December * Lupin : Castle of Cagliostro - Channel 4 - 06:20 on 28th December * Kiki's Delivery Service - Film4 - 13:00 on 30th December * Princess Mononoke - Channel 4 - 12:35 on 31st December
The Mirror claimed that BBC 2 were showing Howl's Moving Castle but I've seen any sight of it listed anywhere, unless it comes in the New Year.
Good line up there :).As much as i love disney,They have nothing on Ghibili films, the quality of animation, the stories, the characters ect ect are fare superior to anything disney has ever produced.
More Anime on TV for the festive season, this time on ROCKWORLD TV (SKY Ch 368) who are showing marathons of D.N.Angel and Divergence Eve in between their regular shows staring on Boxing Day.
D.N.Angel
Daisuke Niwa is a seemingly ordinary middle-schooler with an amazing secret. Heir to a bizarre genetic condition, whenever his eyes meet those of the girl his heart desires an extraordinary change takes place. He is transformed into the legendary Phantom Thief, Dark. To break this curse he must steal the heart of his one true love, that may prove difficult however, how can he win the affections of a girl he can't even talk to?
Divergence Eve
In the year 2317 humans can now travel across the universe at the speed of light by tunneling through different dimensions. Out in the depths of the universe is Watchers Nest, a space station built between a split planet and home to 10 million people. But recently mysterious accidents have been occurring on the station. Are these the effects of bad maintenance or a more sinister threat?
Over the course of this series we follow the adventures of Misaki Kureha and her crew of recruits for the military organization Seraphim.
I'm actually not a big fan of anime (or the BBC), but I guess it's a pretty big deal that it's being shown on terrestrial TV in the UK. I'm not sure if we've ever had it on terrestrial TV over here.
This almost reminds me of the rumors that UFC 81 will be shown on CBS over here. Network TV is definitely the ultimate goal for any genre of TV program.

BBC 4 will be showing Miyazaki's Oscar winning Spirited Away on Saturday January 26th at 8.00pm. I assume that as it's BBC 4 it will be the subtitled version.
If you are guilty of the unpardonable sin of not having seen this film then you can redeem yourself by doing so then!
Spirited away is a great movie but its not in the same class as the likes of Mononoke or Laputa or Totoro...these are the best movies of the Ghibili collection ^^ but its nice Spirited will be shown on BBC4 even if it is horrendously dubbed. My have to watch it on dvd again sometime soon.
Just my opinion of course mib ;). While Spirited away is a breathtaking film, wonderfully animated and a nice story, i just dont enjoy it or Howls Moving castle, the same as the older work.Of course my all time faverate is Totoro ;) but Laputa or Princess Mononoke rank as the best by many fans i talk with, Spirited away isnt spoken as fondly of from who i talk with about them, maybe its the most famous away from japan but its not the best. for me anyway.
