Well news in they have found a director for the A-Team movie. All respective chat on this here please... (News from Empire online)
If no one else can direct, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire... John Singleton! Yes, the Shaft director is on for another TV show adaptation, as he confirmed the rumours that he's set to bring BA, Face, Murdoch and Hannibal to the big screen at last.
The rumours have been flying about this project for years, but Singleton's hiring is a big step forward. He told BlackVoices.com that he's planning to update the show from the original premise, which had Vietnam vets on the run for a crime they didn't commit, helping innocents while staying one step ahead of the law.
Appanrelty the film version will "reflect contemporary issues and politics", which we suspect translates as "cast them as Iraq war veterans on the run from an increasingly paranoid government" and will be "less cartoony" than the original, in more of a Die Hard or Lethal Weapon vein. It remains to be seen if the latter will actually happen - after all, even Die Hard 4.0 was a bit cartoony, and that seems to be the way action films are going these days. Still, we can hope - and as long as someone locks the gang in a warehouse full of spare parts and welding tools at some point in the iflm, we'll be happy.
Still no word on a start date or casting - so let's see if we can help Mr Singleton out. Who would you cast to fill the ginormous shoes of the original quartet, Empire?
again with the destroying of my childhood. If they dont get Mr T then im not watching it, come on the man needs work, he is doing world of warcraft adds ffs.
When this was first talked about a couple of years ago, I heard they were considering George Clooney for Hannibal and Jim bloody Carey for Howlin' Mad Murdoch!
Well pre production for this is now in full swing and recent favorite to play BA (Ice Cube) is now disappearing from the spotlight and being rep[laced by Tyrone Gibson
Who yo ask? He was in Fast and the furious and Transformers... No? This guy then:
Hannibal: Mel Gibson or Bruce Willis Face: Christian Bale Murdock: Jim Carey or Woody Harrelson BA: (The UFC's) Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson, Ving Rhames or Ice Cube.
Intresting picks. It hink we may need to create our own. Anyone wanna give it a try?
The A-Team film has been labouring along for a long time now. It's one of those films we always seem to hear about, but never seems any closer to being made. Ice Cube has been rumoured as B.A. Baracus in the new film, and he's given a little update on where things are.
I wish they'd get on with this one, or give up on it altogether.
The A-Team film has been more than a few years in the making, and surprise surprise it's still in the making. John Singleton is directing the film, and casting rumours so far include Bruce Willis as Hannibal, Woody Harrelson as Murdock and Ice Cube as B.A. Baracus.
Ice Cube says they are still talking about the film, but he's going to be mighty miffed if he isn't playing B.A.
'Man, I am so ready to play B.A. Baracus. I really want it to happen and its the thing weve been talking about lately.'
He was talking to the LA Times through Jo Blo. Talking seems to be all that's happening on this film. Funny how some end up stuck in pre-production. Maybe we'll see some movement soon, let's hope so. Ice Cube sums it up perfectly though:
'...everything is in limbo.'
I pity the fool that disagrees with that. Are you still looking forward to an A-Team movie, or is the long wait putting you off? Should Ice Cube play B.A. Baracus, or should some of the other possibilities get the job?
Just yesterday I wrote about Tyrese Gibson confirming that he's on board the film version of The A-Team being directed by John Singleton but that he hadn't yet revealed his character.
Well today he's revealed what character he would be playing, and it confirms one thing, The A-Team film will not be a direct remake of the series, this will be updated and modernised.
I also think that we're not going to be in for the following known scenarios:
* Everyone survives, and I mean everyone, even the bad guys who get shot at * They manage to make a killer tank out of a dead pickup sitting in a barn somewhere with little else than farmyard tools
Tyrese Gibson was talking to MTV Movies Blog and he confirmed that he will be playing B.A. Baracus. So we already can see that the character isn't going to be like the original played by Mr. T, and that means no Ice Cube which is good because he's so gangster these days he's a kiddies comedy star!
'Its B.A. Baracus...I havent officially signed on everything is still on standby but the conversations coming my way feel right. Im gonna try to put my touch on [the character]. I mean, I got the muscles!'
Well in a way he has, but it is a different look for the character, and that's something that Gibson confirms saying that there's going to be a modernisation of the character, and that could mean no mohawk and without his own body weight in chains.
'I think at the end of the day, you wanna take all the elements that work and take your hands on something new...I dont think B.A. will be pissed if we decide to change it up a bit.'
Now I think that's great, a modern story could work really well, but you know what happens if you modernise the story of The A-Team? You get The Losers, a comic book series which currently has Tim Story attached to it, although it's been through a number of better choices.
So are we in danger of getting an A-Team that is too much like The Losers? A serious, darker, edgier, and more realistic story of a black-ops team betrayed by their own country who come back to find out who turned them over? Do you want a modernised A-Team or one that just stuck to the old television series?
Like the Filmstalker guy said, this is a new version of The A-Team thus the characters are being "re-imagined" hence the new look. In some ways I can see their point but Mr.T/BA is so iconic it's criminal to replace or "redesign" him.
I can understand their point, but it is lke you said, plus when you do a re-imagining you still need to have some elementsof the original to keep it within boundaries.
As much as I hate to admit it, Ice Cube would have been a far better pick.
But the caveat is that many people will see that as cop-out by trying to recreate the original BA too much by casting a guy in the same mould and image as Mr.T, thus making him look like a second rate imitation.
