Here is the latest on the Bobby Lashley-WWE situation.
Lashley has definitely informed WWE that he wants to leave the company. There are a lot of reasons for him wanting to do so. The word we have gotten is that part of it has to do with how his girlfriend Kristal Marshall was treated by the company when she balked at being paired with Edge and doing the Lita gimmick, and was then quickly released. Let's just say that there is a line of thought that at least part of why she didn't want to do the angle was fear of a racial element being added to the storyline by the Smackdown creative staff.
I have also heard of other issues behind the scenes where Lashley reportedly feels like he hasn't been treated well himself while he has been out rehabbing. There is said to have been little communication between Lashley and Vince McMahon and no firm plans in place to get him back on TV now that his injury has healed and this was frustrating to him. At this point, Lashley needs to negotiate an official release from WWE as he is still under contract (and thus is still listed on the company website). As always in this business, things can change at the drop of a hat but for now, his plan is to move on from WWE and then plan the next phase of his life.
I have a feeling somehow and someway, Lashley will stay with the company, Mcmahon did everything in his power to get Bobby over last year and im sure he wont want to lose the guy to TNA.Lashley seems a little bit full of himself though, he is being paid quite a lot to just sit at home, im sure the creative or whoever it is will come up with something for his return, hes being a bit of a twat really.
Unfortunately Lashley didn't get over, certainly not as a main eventer which is what Vince was hoping for. He didn't spike ECW's ratings (which CM Punk has) and did little to help RAW.
To be honest, he wasn't ready for such a big push and the way they rushed him showed that.
I all honesty I feel they knew Booker was on the way down and wanted a black main eventer. Call me cynical but I simply cant see any other reason for the WWE to push him over like that. Did they not learn from Cena that they cant force fans to like someone?!
Bobby Lashley is the latest pro wrestler to join the world of MMA. Scrubsports.com is again the 1st to break this news. If you remember they were the 1st to break the news of the WCO show being cancelled. Lashley hasn't appeared on WWE camera's for months now and should've been back a long time ago. Fans wondered what happened to him and just today, I received word that he is done with the WWE and has been training MMA in hopes of landing a contract somewhere. God help us all!
This is what we've been able to ascertain regarding Bobby Lashley. The story is real and Lashley himself has apparently talked with some web sites to confirm it, including saying he's looking at MMA. Friends of his say he is leaning in that direction, but his prime focus now is just getting out of his WWE contract. It will be interesting to see if, because he has a long-term deal, if WWE will attempt to make him sign a non-compete, how long, terms, and if it will include not doing MMA for a time period.
Lashley was training out of San Jose's American Kickboxing Academy to go into MMA when he got the WWE offer in 2004. He has not given any reasons. We're told the release itself hasn't been finalized, which is why WWE hasn't reported on it, but that Lashley does want out. Several sources have confirmed his being upset at the way Kristal Marshall's firing went down. While some in WWE were aware of it last night at the Smackdown tapings, the word had not spread within the company. Most found out about it this morning from the various stories. Several different people including on the creative side weren't even aware of the fact it had gotten this bad, although there were friends of Lashley's who have seen this brewing for some time. We also know that key people in TNA or UFC who would know if Lashley was looking to go there didn't know anything as of this afternoon.
I wasent hoping it Mib! I was just predicting he would return, i didnt expect he would leave WWE.As much as i dislike Lashley, i really thought he would have returned and won the rumble but im wrong.
As I first reported yesterday on WDFNs Wrestling Elite radio show in Detroit, Bobby Lashley has not been released, but is in negotiations with World Wrestling Entertainment to obtain his release. It appears Lashley initiated this process, and it apparently had been brewing for sometime as the WWE superstars wants out of the company. From what I am hearing, this appears to be a nasty breakup of sorts. Lashley was none to happy about the handling of his girlfriend, Kristal Marshall, who was release in October 2007. We have also heard reports that Lashley had de-bulked in recent months. As far as his future plans, much depends on the type of release he secures from WWE. It is rumored he has multiple years remaining on his WWE contract, so it could work out that WWE lets him out to pursue a career in mixed martial arts, but block him from working with any other wrestling organization. This has ear-markings on being a similar deal to WWE releasing Brock Lesnar from his contract to pursue a football career in the National Football League. As always, GERWECK.NET will keep you abreast of any future developments.
-- Bobby Lashley is currently living in Colorado and training full-time in Mixed Martial Arts. While a career in MMA is something Lashley is considering, he has not shut the door on pro wrestling - namely TNA Wrestling. Lashley and his advisers will be exploring his options to see who makes the best offer. Having saved a good amount of money in his short WWE run, he is in no rush to sign with anybody. Lashley remains close with Booker T and will be training at his wrestling school in Houston, Texas. As we've reported, both Booker T and Kurt Angle have pushed TNA management to sign Lashley when he becomes a free agent in May.
Is Lashley really that big a draw? I didn't think so. I thought he just fell into the push to the moon and still no one cares category. He always reminded me of Ahmed Johnson.
TNA officials are hopeful that former WWE star Bobby Lashley signs with them because they see him as another big name with star power. Kurt Angle and Booker T have been doing their best to recruit him for the company. Most sources believe that it's only a matter of time before Lashley joins TNA. Lashley has also had some discussions with the NWE promotion (the promotion Ultimate Warrior is returning to) and Mexico's AAA promotion.
