Anyone know the customs rules for sending gifts to Japan? Ive sent a small gift to a Japanese pal but Im dreading them having to pay any customs duty when they recieve it. Anyone sent gifts to Japan?
I do it regulary Glowlad, to my korean friends, to my japanese friends, to my chinese..iv never had any problems with that, it costs quite a lot on ourside to post these things but they usually get them over there with no problems, but it depends i guess on what you send.Usually i send just english food, some nice little toys or some things like that, nothing to heavy.
It was a little piece of jewellery Ive sent, nothing expensive or precious...I dont know what to do the for the best.
Ive read horror stories of people in Japan having to pay large amounts of duty, even on small items theyve recieved. The Jewelery is meant to be a surprise gift for a friend, but it would ruin the surprise if they have so hand over cash to recieve it! Likewise, if I tell them now, it ruins the surprise too!
Thats odd, iv never heard about that myself Glowlad, whenever i sent things, big and small,my friends and gf always seemed to have no problem nor had to pay for them.I dont know how it works though :( Gomen nasai...Im sure itll be fine though as long as she gets it, im sure shell like it!
Maybe it depends on which country the items are sent from. Perhaps the Japanese charge duty on items from their neighbours in Korea and China because of old grudges?
I guess reading stuff on the internet can make one neurotic, I read a few horror stories about tax paid on items and forgot that for the majority of people there isnt a problem. Fingers crossed!
see? no prob! I just sent some stuff over to my korean friends today, i have so many that i can never afford big gifts for them all :(..My friends always send me korean and japanese candy which is awesome
