For the uninitiated and ignorant, this was a Japanese Sci-Fi TV show in the early 80's that used puppets instead of Anime or live action. The theme tune for the international release was later adapted and recorded by Brian May (with Eddie Van Halen) and it was great!

As I said in the chatbox it is being released on DVD here in the UK later this year under its original Japanese title of X Bomber.

All I remember from watching it 25 yeasr ago was that the ITV run on Sunday mornings ended on a cliffhanger and we never got to see the ending of the series!

If you want a stroll down memory lane or want to see what the fuss is about try this site out for a comprehensive look at the series:

It was always this or Terrahawks that was the main arguement on the playground when I was younger... Star Fleet always won.

Battle Of The Planets was originally called Gatchaman in Japan. BOTP is the US version that was a heavily edited and rewritten and ended up as something totally different to the original.

Watching some of those Star Fleet clips has brought back some memories...and made me feel old too! wink.gif

I loved Star fleet soooop much...I remember that cool spaceship that was like sailing ship?

Oh and I really liked, and quite fancied Commander Makara(?) I thought Makara was kawaii, but recently read that Makara was both a bloke and a lass. Or something. Maybe I dreamt that!
Its amazing how many of my most loved shows growing up....Battle of the Planets, Mysterious Cities of Gold, Star Fleet...turned out to be Japanese. Is there no end to Japan's charms?

NO!

Cool! Just hearing its theme tune brings a tear to my eye...Id come home from another crappy day at school and watch the show, it was great, escapist fun, with the most glorious theme ever.
