A heads up about another great film airing this week on Film 4.
Guillermo del Toro's excellent fantasy horror Pan's Labyrinth is on Wednesday night and is well worth checking out. It's set in Spain during the Spanish Civil War where a young girl Orfelia discovers a bizarre fantasy world in which she escapes the horrors of war and her abusive step-father, the violent and heartless army Captain Vidal who is seeking out rebel forces.
It's full of stunning imagery, inventive set pieces and original character designs juxtaposed with scenes of brutality and shocking violence. The performances are outstanding, especially the young girl Ofelia and Captain Vidal.
That ambiguity is the whole point of the ending. I took it as a bit of both that the outcome had different meanings to both of the worlds she appeared to inhabit.
Over at CDWOW they have a range of Asian films from various regions, including a load of stuff not released over here and mostly and ridiculous prices with FREE delivery.
It actually works out cheaper than E-bay! Check it out!
