A heads up about another great film airing this week on Film 4.

Guillermo del Toro's excellent fantasy horror Pan's Labyrinth is on Wednesday night and is well worth checking out. It's set in Spain during the Spanish Civil War where a young girl Orfelia discovers a bizarre fantasy world in which she escapes the horrors of war and her abusive step-father, the violent and heartless army Captain Vidal who is seeking out rebel forces.

It's full of stunning imagery, inventive set pieces and original character designs juxtaposed with scenes of brutality and shocking violence. The performances are outstanding, especially the young girl Ofelia and Captain Vidal.

Do yourself a favour and check it out!

Saw Pan's Labyrinth, thought it was great, the performance from the girl was brilliant.

Did you interepret the ending as happy or not?

That ambiguity is the whole point of the ending. I took it as a bit of both that the outcome had different meanings to both of the worlds she appeared to inhabit.

The excellent Korean film 3-Iron is on BBC 4 next Wednesday 09 July at 10:00pm - 11:25pm.

And absolutely stunning film from Kim Ki-Duk where the two leads never speak to each other yet they say so much.

Be sure to check it out.
