Andy Murray has now crashed out in the first round of the tennis (Typical), Phelps has won the second of the 8 Golds he is after and our mens 4x rowers have cruised into the final.
I watched the tennis with Andy Murray and he never really seemed bothered.Micheal Phelps is going to have a hard task winning all the golds but i have a feeling he will achieve all the goals he wants to.
Watching China vs the US womens basketball.Im routing for the home team but the american girls are a phenominal looking side, they seem to be way to strong for them.
Well, TOm Thumb our 14 yo great hope in the synchronized diving, just came 8th.....
I think people have been silly about him expecting too much from him. It would be good if he does well and he might still do good in the individual diving, but he is only 14 and managed to make it into the olympic final of the synchronized diving which is a great achievement.
The lad done really well i thought, at only 14 years of age hes shown he has great talent in the sport and no doubt hell go onto many great things to come, hell probably compete at a good 3 or4 more olympics to.To much to expect him to actually win the competiton or get into the medals as Nymvette said.
Phelps is going to dominate.Quite surprised we are 8th in the medal tables though! Watching the badmington and with our talented duo against the chinese, another exciting battle, fantastic match.
Im a big fan of track and field but its a bit predictable, the US will easily take the Sprint Golds, which is the norm, gone are the days for us of linford Christie,Johnathen Edwards and their like.Doubt we will pick up to much in them with the squad we have.
Phillips Idowu has a shot, just love watching him.... Its the furthest a pair of granny's pop socks have ever jumped! When I spoke of interest dipping I was refering to the Premier League season getting underway...
Interesting situation just now in the Judo: A Georgian faced off against a Russian!
While both countries faced each other earlier today in Basketball and Vollyeball, this was the first one-on-one combat situation. And if the fact that they were forced to wait over 10 minutes - standing side by side - before they could take the mats while another match concluded, but the Georgian's home town had been taken over by Russian troops and the people evacuated just two days ago.
However, it was a short fight with the Georgian (and reigning world champion) won by Ippon.
Phelps is an awesome athlete,he seems unstoppable at the moment! Im watching the Brazil vs China soccer match right now, eagly watching Anderson to see how he performs, been quiet so far though. Also the womens basketball, come on Korea!
Angry Swede throws down medal and quits Thu 14 Aug, 02:52 PM
view photo BEIJING (Reuters) - Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian threw down his Olympic bronze medal in protest on Thursday after his bid for greco-roman gold was ended by a decision denounced by the Swedish coach as "politics".
Abrahamian took the bronze from around his neck during the medal ceremony, stepped from the podium and dropped it in the middle of the wrestling mat then walked off.
view photo "I don't care about this medal. I wanted gold," he said.
A bitter Abrahamian, silver medallist at Athens 2004 who had high hopes of top honours in the 84kg competition in Beijing, announced he was quitting the sport.
"This will be my last match. I wanted to take gold, so I consider this Olympics a failure," the 33-year-old said.
The Swedish wrestler had to be restrained by team mates earlier when a row erupted with judges over the decision in a semi-final bout at the Chinese Agricultural University Gym with Andrea Minguzzi of Italy, who went on the take gold.
view photo Abrahamian shouted at the referee and judges then went over to their seats to speak to them up close. He angrily threw off the restraining arm of a team official then turned and left.
Swedish fans booed loudly as the judges filed out of the arena. Abrahamian said nothing to waiting reporters but whacked an aluminium barricade with his fist as he left the hall.
The gold medallist, who kissed the Chinese medal bearer after receiving his gold, said Abrahamian's walkout "did in a way spoil the victory ceremony for me".
"Certainly one can always question decisions made in the course of refereeing, but in sports it is appropriate to show sportsmanship and accept the results," Minguzzi said.
Hungary's Zoltan Fodor, an outsider who said he "never dreamed of reaching the final" won the silver.
The International Olympic Committee said it was investigating the dispute with the wrestling federation FILA, which Abrahamian said "does not play fair".
"We are in contact with the wrestling federation to establish the exact facts," IOC spokeswoman Emmanuelle Moreau said.
Abrahamian later said he believed his loss to the eventual gold medallist Minguzzi was "totally unjustified". The wrestler said his friends "called me just 20 minutes before the (bronze) competition, begging me to compete".
"I decided that I had come this far and didn't want to let them down, so I wrestled," he said.
Swedish coach Leo Myllari said: "It's all politics."
Myllari did not say if he intended to lodge a formal protest over the decision by referee Jean-Marc Petoud of Switzerland, judge Lee Ronald Mackay of Canada, and mat chairman Guillermo Orestes Molina of Cuba.

Our mixed doubles in Badminton Emms and the bloke are out after losing in two sets in the Badminton mixed doubles quarter finals today. Emms is likely now to quit, and she gave a very teary interview afterwards.
Heh, I have to say that the BBC commentary was a bit biased during the individual men's gymnastics thing. Apparently The British guy was "showing the world how it's done" on the horse thing. He finished 20th.
Yeah, but he's the youngest and was doing a lot better than expected. And to be fair, no ones going to make any fuss over him for another four years so let the kid enjoy his moment.
Naturally the BBC would be biased to our home athletes ;) but as Mollison said, hes done very well at a young age.As for Gail Emms and Nathan Roberts, another great effort from them in the badmington, itll be sad i they dont continue because they are a great team as shown here and in the previous olympics.
Seriously, that man is going to set records that will never be beaten. Can you imagine how many career olympic golds he'll have by the time he retires?!
Indeed, you could say Sir Alex is greedy for winning all the league titles and other competitions to braxious ;).Phelps is simply at the top of his game and all the gold hes winning he is fully earning with hard work and dedication,a true champion. No doubt hell do a Federer in the future and probably start losing his way but right now he is the greatest swimmer on the planet. As for hating Clarkson,Sorry Molison but i cant help it ;).
A runner called Bolt? I thought the 100m was going to be the most contested races in the whle thing, what about the Yank thingy Gay, he's the fav is he not??
Gay was hugley unimpressive.Bolt literally cruised to victory in his heat under 10 seconds and it looked like he was actually jogging the last part of it while he was a good bit ahead of the others who were struggling! The commentators were pretty impressed by him to and i think he holds the current world record.Watch the reply if possible and youll see how good this guy is.Hes phenominal.
So we get to the half way stage and all we have is 3 Golds and 8 medlas overall? The Team GB are going to have to go some next week if we are to make our 40 medal haul target me thinks....
Should do well in the Cycling,we have a very talented group of cyclers. But apart from that, and the rowing,i cant see where other medals will come from,Kelly Sotherton in the Heptathlon might get something but wouldnt bet on it.
Just been watching the rowing this morning, have to say China have got some very pretty women with very nice dresses bringing out the medals.
I did find something about that China had some very specific criteria for selecting the olympic hostesses from the BBC website.
Candidates should be between 18 and 24 and 1.68 and 1.78 metres in height. They should have a "ruddy and shiny complexion", "elastic skin" and "a plump but not fat body".
According to Shanghai's Xinmin Evening News, applicants would be judged on the ratio between the "width of the nose and the length of the face" and also the "width of the mouth and width between the pupils".
Then, there was the clincher: the candidates who had the best chance of getting picked should have a face in which "eye length is three-tenths of the face".
