Just saw the most amazing 100m final of all time, Bolt is an amazing athlete and he could have broken the world record by far more then how he actually did! Incredible!
He was awesome in the heats so there was only going to be one winner. The scary thing is he is only 21 and he has a lot of time before he reaches his peak! The guy is going to be invincible in the 100m for a very long time,he has potential to even break the 9 second mark with his ability.Bolt strolled to victory in the final.
Why do you think he didn't cane it for the last 10-15? He's only 21 and he already holds the WR. Why try and smash that when he can just cruise for now.
We are third in the table which is some feat.We have some very good athletes out there whom we should be proud of.As much as i like footie,i have far more respect and admiration for the guys and girls out there in bejing competing for the love of their respective sports and genuinly wanting to be the best at them, not caring about earning fast sums each week for kicking a ball (looking at you Frank Lampard!).
Totty, you give Olympians a bit too much credit. Do you have any idea how much top sprinters milk their sponsorship deals for?! For example, Maurice Greene a few years back had a sponsorship deal worth more than a certain Mr. Beckhams was with Adidas...
But I bet this Maurice Greene needed the money more than Beckham does because he isn't paid an astronomically ridiculous weekly salary like Beckham is...
We are doing really well this olympics game, better then anyone would have excpected.Naturally china and the US are well ahead of everyone but actually if you discount 8 of the gold medals won single handidly by Micheal Phelps then it would be a lot less for the US! Though i wish Rebecca Adlington all the best, its a little bad that everyone has singled her out for praise when the likes of Chris Hoy who regulary do well at their sports and olympics barely gets any recognition.Theyv all done well, not just one athlete.
Also worthy of note is the fact that we have a pool of 60 million people to harvest atheletes from. Compared with the 300 million the USA has and the 1.3 billion that the PRC has. So for every talented athlete we have, USA has 5 and PRC has over 21! Slight disadvantage!
Indeed. We are building quite a platform for the London games here.We are struggling in the atheltics department mind, apart from Christine Aguluarhu (cant spell her name!) and the success of our mens High jumper,we havent had any success in the track and field.Im pleased for Chris Hoy who for me is the best of our olympians and deserves more plaudits then he actually gets, 3 golds these games and 4 in total, along with a silver to,fantastic competitor. The more i watch these games, the more ashamed i am of our footballers in the premiership whos main goals are money money and more money.
Indeed he will Molisson, scary thing is with him being so young,he could go on to world record after world record espicially in the 100m! Iv become a huge fan of the guy.
Just thought id say after tonights performance,Our england footballers should be ashamed of themselves, awful again and quite frankly are undeserving of the wages they get.Compared to our fantastic athletes at the olympics...well, i wont even say how frustrated i am with them. Its a shame the likes of Lampard and Becks Get over 150 grand a week and not perform for our country, and our athletes earn very little yet actually compete and win for the love of sport.Sorry to rant about it a lot but cant help but be a little cheesed off by it!
Excellent ^^.Great platform for us to buld apon for london. We have some fantastic athletes who deserve a great reception with return.I wonder wholl get the bbc sports personality of the year award though ;) so many great people to choose from after this! My choice would be Chris Hoy.
She ended up just coming second overall as well so chalk up another silver. SO much for my narro minded we will never ge 40 medals acoupleof weeks ago....
I'd say that the Team GB will get the team award at Sports Personality.
I think Team GB (&NI) is a given and Chris Hoy should walk the individual. Addlington did well to get 2 golds, but Hoy got 3. One in a disciplin he only started recently. Simple maths dictates he should get it.
Feel bad for my team Man Utd but even as much as i love their success, our olympians are the true sports heroes of this year.Chris Hoy deserves the title for sports personality,an unbelivable effort from a guy who has dedicated himself to the sport for years and as Mollison said,he won a gold in a discpipline hes new to.Huge admiration for him,and he seems like a truly humble chap as well.Usien Bolt has to be crowned the overseas star as well, the guy is a sprint machine and lit up the olympics with his personality! Cant beleive the games are over Sunday..amazing..
Bolt? 3 Gold Medals. Michael Phelps... 8...! Maths comes into playa again. Plus he did it in 7 days! Michael Johnson can go on about there being more events for a swimmer to win golds in compared to a runner, but you still have to win them! And it wasn't just 8 races, there were the heats as well. Phelps should take the International catagory.
Its hard to have a good track and field team when everyone elses are so much better then ours. The Jamaicans will dominate the sprinting events for a very long time i think, when it comes to the 2012 olympics Bolt will be 27 so i can see him winning again then to.Time to say good bye to these games soon though, quite sad but well done to everyone there.
Spectacular closing event. Shame Leona Lewis ruined Whole Lotta Love but damn - there are some fine Chinese babes taking part in the performances, even those on the periphery.
Just seen Jackie Chan and Andy Lau among others performing the closing song.
Going to miss the games, fantastic times and of course going to miss seeing all those lovely chinese girls ;).Cant stands Becks and Lewis, and to be honest not looking forward to the olympics here for some reason..Still well done to all the athletes of our country who have done so well and to everyone out there competing, probably been the best games iv seen.
goodbye to the 2008 game and it was fab the whole event was totally wonderful, yes i did day that and i include the track and field ( although GB failed to deliver).
down side that Bafoon Boris johnson ( or BLORIS as the chinese called him) waving the flag like a speical needs kid, then that stupid speech and ping pong coming home.
hope hes out of office 2012 because can you imagin that oaff at the opening games ceromony.
Time to wish our athletes well in the Paraolympics, good luck to our guys and girls out there and everyone else, though they dont get the coverage or media as much, these guys are true inspirations and we should be proud of them, hopefully we can get a good medal haul here as well :).
The opening cermony was very good yesterday. It was interesting to see that only a few years ago disabled people were treated very poorly in China and had no access to public transport, they showed that althought things are not ideal yet, they have improved and these games will show many people in china that being disabled doesn't make you useless.
