Next weeks RAW is a special 3 hour edition featurinf KOTR.  So thoughts on whose in it and who'll win it?  Comments in this thread please...

6860052

In a single evening, a man will become a legend as the King of the Ring tournament returns for one night only. On a special three-hour Raw event next Monday night presented by USA Network, Superstars from Raw, SmackDown and ECW will battle for the honor to be crowned King of all WWE and royally solidify their spot in sports-entertainment history.

Past ring warriors to win the prestigious King of the Ring tournament have gone on to become some of the biggest names in sports-entertainment. Triple H and Edge were each crowned the King and subsequently became two of the most prominent champions to ever step into the ring.

So who will take the throne this year as WWEs newest monarch? Will the Green Bay loudmouth back up his harsh words and be hailed as King Kennedy? Will Finlay brawl his way to becoming a Celtic King? Will CM Punk mount the throne with briefcase in hand? Its anybodys guess, but one thing is for certain: Superstars who enter this tournament will give everything they have to be honored with the glory and prestige of being crowned as King of the Ring.

Tune in next Monday at a special time 8/7 CT to watch royalty in the making.

WWE.com posted a graphic which had the likes of HHH, HBK, Big Show, DAVE, etc in it but then they retracted it so it's open to anyone right now.

Well on wwe.com there is an article which has Carlito, Jericho, Willam Regal and Cryme Time?!?! Saying they all want to be in the KotR for RAW. King Carlito works but then if you think about it Royal William Regal does so too. But they are not definte yet.

I like Kennedy.

On a side note, the KOTR was always one of my favorite events when i used to watch wrestling. I liked to see some of the second-billed guys get some notoriety, but then when they had Lesnar and Angle win it, it just became too predictable and I'm glad they finally stopped it.

I was looking at the list of winners, and it is pretty interesting:

06-Booker T (The King Booker gimmick was a bit much)
02-Brock Lesnar (Really, who DIDN'T see this coming?)
01-Edge (Interesting story to move Edge from a tag team wrestler to a singles star)
00-Angle (Again, who DIDN'T know?)
99-Billy Gunn (Another tag team star tried to turn into a singles star, but this one didn't work)
98-Ken Shamrock (I forgot all about this)
97-Triple H (Fit his gimmick at the time very well, remember those tights he used to wear?)
96-Steve Austin (The Stone Cold era began)
95-Mabel/Viscera/Big Daddy V? (Never really translated into a big-name star like they hoped)
94-Owen Hart (Bret's little brother is on my list of favorites, too).
93-Bret Hart (At the height of his popularity)
92-...What happened?
91-Bret Hart

Interestingly enough, only 3 of these 11 wrestlers are still in WWE.

Actually, the KOTR tourney first began in 1985 as a house show attraction.

The winners were:

1985 - Don Muraco
1986 - Harley Race (which quickly became his gimmick)
1987 - Randy Savage
1988 - Ted DiBiase
1989 - Tito Santana

No tourney in 1990 or 1992

OK so here's this weeks preview (Well part check out the RAW thread for the rest.) Still no idea of who will enter although this press release may infer that HHH, Cena, JBL & Randy Orton may be taking part.

As WWE Superstars return from the rich, royal tradition of the United Kingdom to American shores, the stars of Raw, SmackDown and ECW will compete for their own unique crowning glory.

For the first time in two years, a new King of the Ring will be decided in a one-night tournament that commences in the very first hour of a special three-hour episode of Raw, live from the BI-LO Center in Greenville, S.C.

Eight competitors will have to defeat multiple opponents in a single night to be coronated with the treasured crown and robe that WWE Legends and Hall of Famers such as Harley Race, Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase, Bret Hitman Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Edge have worn during their illustrious careers.

Its not known which Superstars will make up the tournament field, but be assured that the four men involved in the Fatal Four Way Match for the WWE Championship at Backlash John Cena, John Bradshaw Layfield, Triple H and WWE Champion Randy Orton will want to make their mark and gain momentum just days before their title tilt. A King of the Ring Tournament victory would do just that.

Find out as a king is crowned on Monday Night Raw, airing live at a special start time of 8/7 CT, only on USA Network.

Another little bit of news which might explain why they pulled the graphic.

There were no long term plans for WWE to do a one-night King of the Ring tournament on Raw tonight. Apparently the decision was made in the last ten days.

So it was a quickly rushed job and not a confirmed idea. im now thinking Cena will win as he hasn't won it yuet and needs it on his CV. Or maybe JBL, so his return can mean something without him actually getting a title.
