The current plan for WWE's Night of Champions pay-per-view is for the company to do a WWE Champion vs. WWE World Heavyweight Champion vs. ECW Champion match. I was told today that the event will also include the United States Champion (Matt Hardy) vs. Intercontinental Champion (Chris Jericho) and WWE World Tag Team Champions (Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly) vs. WWE Tag Team Champions (Mike The Miz & John Morrison). All of those matches are expected to be non-title matches. There is also talk of a Beth Phoenix vs. Mickie James ladder match for the WWE Women's Championship for the event. This would be the first women's ladder match ever in WWE.
i wouldnt mind seeing a womens ladder match to be honest
- WWE Champion Triple H vs. John Cena (WWE Championship Match)
- World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. DAVE
- ECW Champion Kane vs. Big Show (ECW Championship Match)
- World Tag Team Championship Match - Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase and ?
- United States Champion Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero
On the subject of the mystery partner for Ted DiBiase Jr, comes this spoilerific news bite...
Spoiler
- On Monday night after Raw some fans ran into Ted Dibiase Jr. at a local establishment right down the road. He was said to be very nice and agreed to take photos with all of them. When asked who his partner will be at Night of Champions he simply said "the son of a Bulldog". I assume he is referring to DH Smith. Also if you go to the match preview on WWE.com for the tag title match at Night of Champions and click on Ted Dibiase's name it takes you to DH Smith's bio. Either way it's another big mistake by WWE.com.
Chris Jericho is scheduled to defend the IC title on Sunday's Night of Champions PPV. It appears they will do a mystery opponent, which may or may not wind up being Shawn Michaels.
I'd of edited my post for my precition but it wont let me. So i'm now saying Mark Henry will win against Kane, i dont want him to but i think ECW needs its title.
Shawn Michaels would prob be obvious opponent at night of champions, but i reckon they could give one of the raw draft picks a shot, maybe Kofi Kinstone or maybe they'll give Jeff Hardy a chance to win it back.
Well what a pathetic tag team partner for Ted DiBiase... By all accounts the buzz seems pretty good on this one. Most are saying that HHH/Cena was match of the night. I have to applaud the WWE for taking the risk and putting the IC on Kingston looks like the guy is in for a mega push then..
So how are they going to sort out the titles then with the draft? Two of them on SD! and one US title on ECW?
I have a feeling that when Edge does the dirty on Vicky she'll cause him to lose or drop the title somehow... maybe to a MitB CM Punk who'll take it to RAW?
The last two matches were the best but Edge vs DAVE suffered from the usual OTT booking. But Credit to Vickie G for taking that bump to the outside.
Ted DiBiase's music sucks big time. The angle was well executed but I (and everyone else it seems) called it yonks ago.
It's way too early for Kofi Kingston to be IC Champ. It's like Santino's win all over again as it was more about HBK vs Y2J than Kofi's win. I think if Kofi doesn't turn heel after fan ennui, he'll at least be like Shelton Benjamin as IC Champ and never defend the belt on PPV.
Surprising main event result. Let's see where they go from here.
ECW has a world title, WWE Tag and now the US title. RAW has the IC, Women's and tag titles, while SD has the WWE, World, and soon the new Divas title. Hmmm....
I marked for the Kofi title win because I didn't expect it. Plus he's very good in the ring. I liked the Matt Hardy match, again I expected him to lose to Chavo so the belt stayed on smackdown but it didn't so that's good.
I kinda fell asleep during the womens title match.
I disliked the Mark Henry win as he doesn't shout "ECW Champion" to me, Hell he doesn't even shout "Tag Champion" to me.
I'm looking forward to the Ted Debiase/Cody Rhodes storyline and it actually kinda makes me wanna watch raw tonight.
There's a whole mess of the title picture now it'll be interesting to see how it pans out.
I think it could be teed up to scrap the old world titles. I think the whole WWE Champ and Heavyweight Champ doesn't work as WWE incorporates the 3 Brands yet only Superstars on one can win it. And Heavyweight Champ just sounds spurious next to a WWE title, belittling the brand that has that.
We have an ECW CHampionship.
Cue Raw Heavyweight Championship and SD! Heavyweight Championship.
Yes the names dont have the same punch but we'd get used to them and it saves the silly messing around come draft time.
But the problem wouldn't exist if the WWE resurected WCW like they did ECW. Keep WWE Raw, with WWE Title. Create WCW SD! (I'd prefer Nitro but the SD! franchise is too strong to be dropped entirely) with WCW Title. And ECW remains as is. Raw gets IC. SD! gets US Champ. ECW gets TV Champ.
Yes we'd all know that WWE owned everything still but it could be done convincingly with a decent Kayfaybe storyline. Perhaps even asking Bischoff to "buy" SD! to recreate WCW. Raw's always been Vince's favourite child anyway!
Unfortunately Vince is to shortsighted and stubborn for most/any of this to ever happen!
Yes I've thought about this a lot but I think it makes sense!
The reason why there is an ECW title rather than a RAW or SD title is because ECW was originally a separate promotion to the WWE while RAW and SD are still "WWE" products.
Obviously that went out the window when Vince's ECW failed to take off and he fired most of the originals on the roster, so it essentially became a third WWE brand which is seen more of a "developmental" brand to nurture new talent with it's own self contained championship just like OVW etc. To that end, ECW will still be referred to as an independent entity and will not have the "WWE" prefix attached to it.
As for the WCW idea, Vince will never resurrect it. WCW was his direct competition for a number of years whereas he had a working agreement with ECW and never saw them as a big enough rival. To revive WCW now would seem like an admission of how much value the name may have had in its day which Vince just will not recognise nor would he like his company to validate that by reviving it. There is a reason why WCW concepts such as War Games, Starrcade, Hallowe'en Havoc, etc. haven't been used by Vince because of them being so synonymous with this dead promotion (although who the Great American Bash and US Titles got through I have no idea).
Bottom line is: WCW is dead and Vince wants it to stay dead because he is the one who killed it.
Looks like I was partly correct then. Edge did indeed drop the belt to CM Punk???!!!!! on RAW via the MitB. What a crap way to drop the belt, but then I dont suppose in a million years HHH was going to give up the gold...
Ah, it sounded like you were dismissing the angle outright.
Besides, as Edge is a heel it wouldn't have worked so well, and you have the added irony of Edge being the victim of his own malfeasance, having been so opportunistic with his MITB shot twice. And, what heel do you have on RAW that is over enough and fresh enough as Punk to comfortably pull off such a win?
In this instance it needed to be Edge to do it and not HHH.
I think where I am going with this is, that this feels like (Although it isnt) another moment of HHH going Im not dropping the title let him (Edge) do it. As he never really ahd the chance to bury him at the end of the DX/Team RKO fued as he jumped ship to SD! before he got the chance. At least this opens up the door for Edge HHH matches going into Summer slam although I would have prefered it for WM.
Do you realize that RAW now has 2 new young fresh champions or 3 if you include the tag belts too. Good grief building up the future talents what have the creative dept been sniffing?
Maybe it's because HHH is now on SD that they've HAD to create new stars, seeing as Vince and Steph (largely the latter) actually believe HHH is as good as he suggests in his promos.
