It seems that the crime du jour at the moment is to attack someone with a knife.  here is the latest sickening example:

Two children have died and a baby remains in a critical condition after what police believe was a knife attack.

Officers were called at 2230 BST on Friday to Carshalton, Surrey.

A five-year-old boy, a girl aged four and a six-month-old girl were rushed to hospital in south London. The older boy and girl later died.

A 39-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were arrested at the scene and taken to separate south London police stations for questioning.

Murder squad detectives and the Child Abuse Investigation Command are investigating. Post-mortem examinations are being arranged.

Police said they believed they knew the identity of the dead children, but were still waiting for formal identification and confirmation that all family members had been informed of the incident.

Just wondered on peoples thoughts and what the Goverment should do to combat this.  Mark Whalberg on Jonathan Ross last night was bang on the money when he said that people just don't value life anymore.

Comments?

Disgraceful. You actually watch Jonathan Ross....

Seriously, I get sickened whenever I read the news and there has been another stabbing - usually involving teenagers. A lot of people say they carry knives for protection but seeing as they are protecting themselves against other people with knives, they are simply exacerbating the problem.

Crime is something that will never go away and violent crime is something that breeds itself and it is s sad indictment of our times that this gang mentality which is permeating through our society helps propagate such behaviour. I hate to sound like an old man (even though I am) but when I was younger if any of your mates had a knife other than a pen knife you steered clear of him; now it's a prerequisite for gang membership.

I can't dissent from Whalberg's comments about no-one valuing life anymore as it is totally correct. This is why I get mad at these human rights tosser who moan about the treatment thugs and murderers get - if they don't value the lives of others then they forfeit any human rights themselves.

As for the Government, they are all talk as usual. They maybe genuinely concerned about this but they spend too much time talking about it rather than doing anything about it. They've started by toughening up the laws for possession which is good start, now start on some of these parents too who allow their kids to be so delinquent. Cracking down on retailers of specialist weapons be they high street shops or online is another good move.

I have a 5 year-old nephew and I worry about him daily when I think of what a nasty and violent place the world is turning into. I'm sure the parents on this forum feel the same way.

Another day another tragic story...

A 14-year-old girl has been found stabbed to death on a housing estate in south-east London, police have said.

The girl was found in a lift at Matheson Lang House on Baylis Road, in Lambeth, at about 1545 BST on Monday.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said their crew arrived at the scene in "under four minutes" but failed to resuscitate the girl.

The girl is the 16th teenager to be killed in London since January this year.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed she suffered multiple wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We sent a fast response car, an ambulance, the air ambulance and an officer to the scene, the first of which arrived in under four minutes.

"Sadly, despite extensive efforts to resuscitate the patient, she was pronounced dead at the scene."

The girl's body is still at the scene.

Police have launched a murder inquiry and the area has been cordoned off. The next of kin have been informed.

A police statement said: "On attendance we found a girl in a lift suffering from a number of stab wounds.

"Officers from the homicide and serious crime command are on their way to the scene".

No arrests have been made.
