Anyone else love his film reviews on the Simon Mayo show? I often disagree with him, but I love the passion and humour which he throws into it. He and Mayo make a great couple!
His review of Mamma Mia yesterday was a joy, he hated it it on almost every level yet confessed to crying twice during it, and to wanting to see it again. Kermode is Britain at its best! He puts such verve and passion into things, movies answer to John Mcenroe.
How could he hate the film yet cry and want to see it again? Jeez ^-^.Im not a fan at all of his reviews, but ill give him credit, hes far a better movie reviewer then Wossy..I dont tend to read or watch movie critics because id rather judge movies on my own viewing rather then what other people think.
Kermode is a donut and thats putting it nicely. Whenever I am at screenings with him he's always looking around waiting for someone to notice him, comes across with his little friend James King as a couple of Morons and they fall asleep during most of the films they review.
But I'll give him one thing Mamma Mia is rubbish, but you can't help but like it. I've just been dragged by the wife to see it (I already saw the press screening 4 weeks ago) and its OK but Streep is still really, really bad in it.
if you want to see Kermode get his comeuppance check out the dvd of david lynch movie Inland empire where he has a conversation with Lynch about his movies and gets his ass handed to him by the master. I actually felt bad for the pompous git by the end of it, to be told you are so utterly wrong so many times in quick succession is mortifying for anyone but for a film critic it must be doubly so. Serves him right for his initial crap review of blue velvet which he later retracted
Mmmm...seems Mr Kermode is Vince Russo-like in his popularity! But I for one find his friday afternoon banter with Simon Mayo unmissable. I often disagree with him...he loathes the Star Wars movies for example, wheras A New Hope is my all time favourite film. But he is very entertaining, especially when laying into films like Norbitt! He also seems a nice guy to me.
