Filmstalker says:

Looks like J.J. Abrams is set to bring us another disaster film, this time without the monster of Cloverfield and instead a natural disaster, this one being an Earthquake.

As yet there's no word what role he's playing in the film other than producer, whether it be writer and/or director, all we know is that he's teaming up with the screenwriter of the original Omen film, David Seltzer.

As usual details about the story are going to be kept under wraps, and why not, it turns out much better for that in the end, even with the few leaks along the way, it all adds to the hype.

Earthquake films aren't anything new, but you can guarantee that J.J. Abrams will do something a little different here and keep the focus a lot more narrow than seeing bridges collapes and huge buildings disappear.

However I can't shake the feeling that this news from The Hollywood Reporter isn't the best, and that minus monster, of which there really wasn't that much in the film Cloverfield, that he's done this before.

That means that this one will have to have something different and very strong about the story and the characters, otherwise it could be another disaster film with a natural underground and never seen monster rather than one above ground.

Now that's where the announcement of David Seltzer comes in, the idea that he's writing does bring some hope, although he was the writer of the remade The Omen script, he does have uncredited writing duties on Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and Someone to Watch Over Me, other than that it's The Omen that stands out.

You have to believe that Abrams has something special there though, after all he did make Cloverfield work and made it huge, and there's his past career of some great and thrilling stories. Will we still hold out hope after Star Trek?

I'd rather it was the lifestory of John Tenta than a remake of that!

I wondered if it was a remake of the 70's film but I'm not so sure for the moment. I'm sure more news will be forthcoming.
