Worlds Collide, the newest album by Finnish Cello Metal band, Apocalyptica (not as weird as you think!) featuring guest vocals from Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour), Till Lindermann (Rammstein), Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) and guest drums from Dave Lombardo (Slayer).
I am currently listening to Usher's new album Here I Stand, and I have to say it is actually rather excellent. No being a huge fan of RnB/Rap/Pop style, this is a refreshing change. Boy can the man sing too.
John Denver - Annies Song well, the whole greatest hits really, looking for songs to beef up my acoustic set
If you're up to the task then Zeppelin have some great acoustic numbers you can try. "Thank You", "Going To California", "Battle Of Evermore", etc..
If you want something fairly easy then try some of the Beatles stuff like "You've Got Hide Your Love Away", "Love Me Do", "Norweigan Wood" or "We Can Work It Out".
"Julie" by the Levellers is easy - just three chords as is "Knockin' On Heaven's Door".
Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" should be up your street too as is Cinderella's "Comin' Home". Also try "Lola" by The Kinks or "Hotel California" by The Eagles and "Pinball Wizard" By The Who. Don McClean's "American Pie" should also go down well along with George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" and "Give Me love". And Queen's " '39" is a good rousing number. Perhaps some Bowie too like "Starman" or "Space Oddity".
If you want to be adventurous you could try some Nick Drake or Tim Buckley! Or if you want something more modern then maybe Oasis tracks like "Wonderwall" or "Sunday Morning Call" are your thing. Paul Weller's "Wild Wood" is a cool song too.
Those are some good sudgestions MiB. I have like 3 in my set already, Metallica "Nothing Else Matters", Foo Fighters "Times Like These", Incubus "Drive".
I wanna add like 2 or 3 more special songs, I'm feeling "Heartbeats" by Jose González is a frontrunner. I want an emotional Tour dé Force when it comes to my acoustic set. I want a nice Mixture of Mellow and sing alongs but I don't wanna fall into the trap of playing the same songs as everyone else if that makes sence (i.e "Stairway to Heaven" and "Hotel California" and the like).
I wasn't sure what kind of gig you were doing to be honest. I figured if it was simple affair then breaking out the classics often helps in the long run.
If you haven't already, checkout Clapton's unplugged version of "Layla". It's way different from the original and works really well. Also Neil Young's Unplugged CD is another you should check out for inspiration. And if you can find it, Tesla's acoustic version of "Signs".
Dont get chance to listen to much music but im currently listening to Angela Aki, MisChiru and BOA songs when im resting at night ^-^ great stuff,Angela Aki espicially has a fantastic voice.
Currently Im listening to the new albums from Dragonforce (Ultra Beatdown) & ACM Gospel Choir (The one's from the BBCs Last Choir Standing). Have to say though, the DF album is basically same old same old and it's beginning to wear a bit thin all these 7+ minute opuses from them.
