I've just watched the latest trailer and I have to ask: is Spidey going to be able to get through one film without having his costume torn to shreads and thus revealing his identity?
Ive got the day off on Friday so I'll be on my way there too. Im really looking forward to it and I have been trying to avoid finding anything out about it.
I can't see Venom getting too much screen time, to be honest. I can see Sandman being the bad guy, followed by Green Goblin and then towards the end Venom will appear with some kind of open ending leading to Spidey 4.
Spider-Man 3 has already broken box office records in Asia Spider-Man 3 has set a new box office record for first-day takings, earning $59m (£30m) in North America on Friday, according to its film studio Sony. The movie beat the previous record of $55.8m (£28m), set by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest last year.
And it is on course to set a new record for an opening weekend. But it has reached that mark with mixed reviews.
"That's why they call him the amazing Spider-Man," said Paul Dergarabedian of box office tracker Media By Numbers.
"Just five years ago, these are numbers we thought we'd never see."
The $59m haul would be a good result for an opening weekend, let alone a single day, he told the Associated Press.
The reaction from fans may have been overwhelmingly positive - but the critical response has been less than glowing.
'Plain awful'
The Washington Post said the film was "plain awful", while The New York Post called it "overly long and complicated".
The more favourable reviews included Newsweek magazine, which said it was "nothing if not eclectic, but somehow this ambitious mishmash works".
The third instalment in the series sees Peter Parker, played by Tobey Maguire, battle the darker side of his personality and try to hold on to his love interest Mary Jane Watson, played by Kirsten Dunst.
Variety magazine said it was also showing on more screens than any previous film, playing in 4,252 cinemas.
The previous Spider-Man film took $40m (£20m) on its opening day in 2004, Variety said. It went on to make $373m (£187m) in the US in total, $30m (£15m) behind the overall takings for 2002's original.
Spider-Man 3 was also released in the UK on Friday and has already broken box office records in Asia.
Don't know about you but I thought it was superb, but not as good as 2.
Went to see it with the wife and kids yesterday. We pretty much all liked it! The visuals were very nice! Sandman and Venom were really cool! Story was a little cheesy, but I can live with that.
Just finished watching this movie and it was pretty good, the CGI, espicially for the Sandman, were incredible, some of the best youll ever see, while Venom was awesome in the time he was on the screen. Kirstin Dunst and Toby Maguire were great in their roles as usual, while Jameson as usual had me in stiches, love the cameo with Bruce Campbell as the french waiter.A pretty impressive film, easily better then the second which i really didnt like at all, highley recommend it.
I've yet to see it, has it suffered the curse of the sequel? usually the formula gets a bit stale after 2 movies, is it really as good as people are saying?
I've seen this film on the premiere night and to honest, i was a bit disappointed. The special effect are great, but the actor chosen to be venom (Topher Grace) is far from being what I expected. In the comic, Edward "Eddie" Brock is a real tough guy.
*POSSIBLE VERY SMALL SPOILER* Also the scene at the the bar where our beloved spider man play piano is almost a comedy. For a moment i though i was watching the mask !!!
I was a little disappointed with this film, special effects were great, but the story was very weak (in my books). It strayed too far from comics/animated series and this did sort of tick me off. I know the other 2 movies have been the same, but Venom was one of my Fav characters from the comics/TV series, and they basically killed the movie for me. I dont think the guy from That 70's Show did too bad a job, it was just the script. overall i think it was an ok movie, probably 2.5 to 3 stars
See I liked it other than Sandman. I understand they are talking about Vulture and Electro for Spidey 4 and it looks like Raimi will again direct. Also, with those two in, theres a possibility of the Sinister 6?
